    We checked out of the Ramada Inn in Romania. On the bus, we drove to Bulgaria. It was a 2 hour drive. Romania is an EU country so has open borders like the rest of the EU; no check points at borders. Bulgaria on the other hand is still in their 5 year probational stage before becoming a full member of the EU. Their economy is studied to make sure they are stable, etc. As a result, they still have check points at ...

    ... br> Things were a little slow around Bucharest, too many traffic lights, no fun in the heat of the day. The locals used the tram tracks as an overtaking lane which was interesting. At one point we found ourselves stationary, straddling the tracks on what looked like the local version of Clapham Junction . For a few seconds the future of this blog hung in the balance!

    ... was perfect and we all got a little bit sunburnt. Lizards skittered from hole to hole in the wall foundations. Needless to say, the views were absolutely stunning. We looked out over the modern village of Cherven, the river and all the enscarpments beyond. There was a very steep drop from some of the rocks round the edges - not for people with a fear of heights...
