... temperature of 10-15 degrees, perfect for storing wine, and a unique atmosphere for tasting wine. The main valley has 50 odd cellars lining each side of the hill, with a large park in the centre where families were having barbecues and playing music. We stayed in this main area, and slowly made our way between several different cellars (6 or 7 in total). You could do a tasting, then choose your favourite and get a glass for between the equivalent of around 50 cents to a couple of ...

We had to go back to the car to plug the meter, then walked back through the other side of town towards the large Basilica. On several houses there were markers showing the height of the water during the 1878 flood- it would have been up to my nose! Across from the Basilica is a university that has a beautiful library- it was built by ...

In the morning, we got up, had breakfast, packed up and closed the guesthouse up. Then we were off to Egerszalok, a suburb of Eger and in the wine growing region that produces many wines, including Egri Bikaver (Bull's Blood). Driving for Tolcsva to Egerszalok, we saw rolling hills covered with vineyards, fields of sunflowers and round hay bales. So idyllic! We arrived at our hotel in Egerszalok in a few hours and parked the car. Our rooms ...
