of the group left and tomorrow others will leave as well---it’s just
how the travel arrangements shook themselves out.

We wandered over to the big shopping area (think Times Square with lights and every
western designer store) and then to Tian’ anmen Square at night, which
was eerily nice to look at and quite crowded (but not in the square,

It's fair enough to argue the point that China, and Beijing in particular, is a land of contradictions. We hear about the country's politics, it's focus on a political system that is not quite true to its Maoist origins, we hear and read about the pollution that can often result in illness and a general feeling of malaise, but what we don't hear about is the cultural richness and diversity of this city, and other urban areas within China. Cell phone doesn't work over here (which I was told that it would) and due to my Macbook Pro retina not having an ethernet port (and the hotel only having an ethernet cable) i am unable to connect to the internet.

Right now i am on a friends computer...hopefully i have this problem resolved tomorrow...no need to worry about no responses until july....yet.

This trip should be a blast. Crazy culture shock.

... gap between everyone else. Security people shouting slow down as i flew past them. After a few mins of maxed out speed, i came around the corner two thirds of the way down, only to be confronted with a woman not even going walking speed. To my horror, i had to anchor on and only just missed her back side by a hairs width! Then there was the problem of getting the rest behind me to stop before they hit me. Luckily they did and we roled down the rest ...
