everything with wheels is doing its own thing. Our best sight today was a
scooter (small motor bike) that had a three seater lounge and two single
seaters strapped on the back effortlessly joining the stream of traffic.

About to take care of the washing - a quick shower - then off to bed to get

As I've mentioned in previous blogs, the one thing that struck me about living in Beijing is it remains a city of contrasts. Politically, China is a country that purports to be a communist nation, but in the past decade, rampant consumerism has seeped through its political fabric, and Christmas defines that degree of not so subtle capitalism. something that sounds like a cowbell and is in charge of the pace of
the show. The opera consisted of 3 short stories which were parts of
longer, popular Chinese folk tales. The first story was about a man
who wanted to stay at an inn. While he was sleeping, the man who
operated the inn tried to kill him. Most of the scene was the two men
looking for each other in a "pitch black" room ...

When there's no tour bus putting us under pressure, we get lazy very quickly! Our first objective was to see the boss man, Chairman Mao, who despite being no longer with us is still receiving guests. He gets tired in the afternoons so the place closes at midday - not a problem I would have thought until we found ourselves leaving the hotel at 11.30am with a 15 minute walk to Tianananmen Square where he's now based. On arriving, a Chinese man enquired ...
