... time to chat with the locals they told us how lucky we were to be visiting at this time of the year, how much nicer it is when it is quiet. As one shopkeeper told us 'Now you can see the real Santorini’
We had one last stroll around the laneways overlooking the caldera, one last meal at the excellent Pelican cafe and one last ice cream from our favourite sweet shop and one last soak in the Jacuzzi.
Ah Santorini, thank you for sharing your beauty with us.
... was much easier and we met up with the rest of our party and got back to the ship with minutes to spare.
The next stop was the hot springs, and after visiting Rotorua in New Zealand and Dalyan and Pamukkale in Turkey I was looking forward to it with some anticipation. We sailed from one volcanic island to the smaller one right beside it. We reached another cove and tied up to a buoy. I figured we were transferring on to a smaller boat to take us to shore ...
... for me.
Ancient Thira is well worth a visit. Perched impossibly on top of a mountain of pure rock it looks out to a view to forever. It’s not hard to imagine the reasoning behind setting a city up this high, even though it must have made life very challenging for the inhabitants. Wandering around the ancient laneways poking in and out of the ruins of houses thousands of years old made me wonder what life must have been life for the original inhabitants ...
... buildings with stunning caldera backdrops that you will need another memory card. It took us almost an hour to reach the village of Imerovigli, another town perched impossibly on the top of the cliffs. Although there was nothing open in this town except the supermarket, this allowed us to get the water we needed (but not the coffee stop we craved...)
We were told that the walk to Oia is two hours, but the literature (once we read it) said 3 hours. We took more than four ...
... sat there and waited, and waited, and waited...until finally...a woman dropped off a Chinese/Japanese couple (the first of many we saw) and asked us where we were going. When we explained our situation she told us that the buses and taxis know the plane schedules as well and don't stop by the route after awhile. We would have doubted her but it was already past noon, and so far we had yet to see either taxi or bus. She offered to take us to her hotel next, and Megan tried ...
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece jhdavis... his guts were floating about in the water). Our first full day there was Friday, July 11, the day Caroline's AFL team, Carlton, were due to play St Kilda with a win possibly thrusting them into the top eight, a place they haven't been in quite sometime. With the game starting at 7.40pm Sydney time, 11.40am Greek time, we went hunting for a pub that might be showing the game. Our search led us to Murphy's Bar ...
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece cc_world_tour... and then we went to the Red Beach - a beach where the sand is red because of lava rocks. This spot is interesting as it is the only red spot in the island and all the other beaches are black sanded also because of the volcanic activities the island suffered years ago. Later we went to the island lighthouse and then we went to the ancient Thira, which was just closing at the time we were arriving. Since we still had half of the day, we went to the ...

And this is Atlantis Hotel. Which reminds me Santorini is actually one of the possible location of the legendary Atlantis .

We had our dinner onboard the boat. The dinner wasn't that good. It's buffet style, with no tables, and drinks are extra... But the sunset view are magnificent! The sun slowly disappear into horizon, and the colour of the sky slowly change from blue to yellow, to total darkness, till the only light you see are the lights from the caldera.
... was suddenly cut short both on Crete and on Santorini when the super-eruption struck. It's a fine display of frescos, bronze, pottery and statuary - the highlight being a 10cm gold Ibex found boxed and in mint condition in 1999. And there's possibly more to come as only 5-10% of the Akrotiri site has been excavated. So that, in a ...
