A Day of Contrasts

Today we visited the Genocide Museum, Tuol Sleng, formerly known as S-21. This was followed by a trip to "The Killing Fields". We were picked up at 8:00 by another van and a local guide, something we have learned is part of the G Adventures mandate. By hiring local vans and local guides, money is kept in local hands. Our guide this morning, Mr. …

We woke early for an 8.30 departure to our next stop. The first stop at 11.30am was just for the 'happy room' there were a few distractions namely insects! A choice to buy and eat spiders, cockroach, silkworms or frogs. Think I will give that a miss. Sam on the other had decided to try a spiders leg yuck!! The lady then put a spider on him, don't …

We arrived at the border and had to disembark from the bus to leave Vietnam get our passport stamped, then get back on the bus to travel 100 meters to …

Phnom Penh

Our 4 hour drive passed over the Vietnam/Cambodia border. Things went pretty smoothly: hand them $25 US and our passport, walk through the body scanner, get some fingerprints done and good to go! Phnom Penh is a city of 2 million people and similar to Vietnam (the crazy traffic doesn't end), there are thousands of motorbikes piled with people. No …

It was really cheap to stay here with 3 people in a room. I was in Happy House first, and it was terrible, so this was a nice change. The staff was really helpful and the rooms nice and clean.
