Holaaaa!!!!!!!!!
Phnom Penh, Cambodia dirkmartaarrived early into Phnom Penh with very no hassels at the Vietnamese-Cambodian border. so, we're finally in Cambodia. really... where the heck are we??? anyways, of the countries we've been to so far, i must say that the Cambodian countryside is the most stunning. it's such a wet country with rivers, lakes, etc.. wonderful for agriculture. we met a nice english girl working in australia. we ended up sharing info and staying at the same hotel. and with her suggestion, the three of us grabbed a...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia euniceandbyoungHi Guys and Gals, It's time for another installment of my travel blog. Some of you have mentioned that the blog has been funny so far, well, no I feel underpressure to perform!!! Haha. Well today I have a tale of more comical coach rides, a second helping of food poisoning, and a super hot waitress! Before I dive right in with what I have been up to I would like to tell you a little bit about the Khmer (what Cambodians call themselves) rules of the road (it will all come together a bit later)...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia mattislost... So I want to use additional texts, such as Headway or Grammar in Use when I start teaching. The timing is a bit complicated as my new co-teacher is very eager for me start teaching but I'm supposed to have at least a month to observe and the year one students won't start until November. I am eager to have a schedule and get into a routine but it's so difficult when all of the classes haven't started yet and Sokum is so persistent.

I think that ...
Prey Veng, Cambodia ckulenguski... this blog entry is not for the faint of heart or squeamish readers.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie, this epic drama recounts the awful historical tragedy that befell Cambodia during the Pol Pot regime from 1975-79. Pol Pot was a brutal communist determined to restore an agrarian utopia in the country, and like many a good dictator, he went about it in a very disturbing an violent manner.Signs tell tales ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia bgoode98... act. The Khmer Rouge, like the Nazi's, meticuliously documented ever prisioner and their photos are all on boards within the old jail walls. It has probably been one of the wierdest days I've ever felt as its so hard to come to terms with what these people actually went through even though its there in photos and writing in front of you. How any human being can act like that towards another is just beyond me. While cruelity to animals and disregard ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia claire_noel... which he volunteers in PP. SO on Tuesday night we paid a quick visit to the orphanage, had dinner and watched an English lesson!
The next day we went out a lot earler and spent a great deal of time playing with the kids and were all able to help teach a lesson! This was quite daunting but very rewarding! We then went back and ate in the orphanage before sadly saying our goodbyes.
This was an incredible experience, the kids were wonderfully warm and so happy that ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia james8041... to show the scale and the impact of just what the Khmer did to it's own people and the people of Cambodia. The Killing Fields we visited just outside of Phnom Penh helped to give a visual perspective on the atrocities that occurred. When walking through the fields there are still clothes visible from where Cambodian people were ordered to strip naked before being beaten to death with bamboo sticks and being deposited in mass graves. As the ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia vince1989We arrived early afternoon in phnom phen and immediately set about our adminstrative duties, dropping our passports off at the Laos embassy so theycould process them overnight and present us with our visas the next day! We then took a walk, as is our usual custom, and went exploring the place. We first stopped along the riverside, where we watch kids break dancing and took in the view of the river....a huge body of water, where the Meakon ...
Phnom Penh, Cambodia mccoyryan... just exactly how horrible Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge were, killing 40% of the population in a ruthless genocide that 30-years later still makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. Beggars, cots on the street, and people missing limbs are common occurrences. We found that it is one of the most expensive cities we have been in, or countries for that matter... yes, you heard me right, out of China, Laos and Vietnam ...
