... go to her shop so we said we'd go over after breakfast. We were looking for magnets but didn't like the ones we saw so thanked her and moved on and she started getting odd saying we said we'd buy something which we certainly didn't. It ****** me off when they get like that – I understand that there are so many of them all selling the same **** but they almost expect you to buy something when you just want to look.. We walked through the gate of Angkor Thom gate ...
Siem Reap, Cambodia sharorApproaching the gate, we cross a moat via a 50 meter brick road (and no, it's not yellow). On one side of the bridge are 54 devas (guardian gods) that are permanently reenacting the famous tug of war in Churning of the Sea of Milk. They tug on the tail of the giant serpent, while the asuras (demons) tug on the head on the other side of the ...

After we came back to Siem Reap, we stopped at a Khmer restaurant for a stupendously refreshing beer (it's like 34 C here after the sun has set) and a subliiiiiiiime Khmer dinner. Amok fish (fish grilled with coconut milk and served in banana leaves) is a well-known national dish and the one we had was tingingly delicious (I know "tingingly"is not a word but the food was so good it ...
... my arrival it is overcast and raining heavily most days. The stream outside our school has become a river. I wonder if I will get into work tomorrow. Hope so we have 10 new volunteers starting and have a lot of work to finish on our new site in Treak village where we are building another school facility and are investigating the possibility of raising the rice paddy at the back to provide a sports pitch. Its not nine to five here.
Siem Reap, KH.16, Cambodia albionvicar... as a good sign. God knows why they had crocodiles there - we couldn’t get an answer in understandable English from anyone and so in the end just gave up. It was a sort of crocodile farm - or at least they weren’t wild in the river and lived in a contained area but we don’t know where they came from or what their purpose was.
The drive back into town was just as wonderful - as it’s the middle of the rainy season here half the houses are submerged in the ...
Alright there folks, Hope your all fine and well. All going grand at our end. In Cambodia at the minute and loving it even if I am sweating about 2 litres a day!! After the last blog in Penang we travelled up into Thailand and Kho Phangan for the full moon party. Fisrt 4 hours of bus journey was on a lovely big mini bus with reclining seats etc. For the last 5 hours we were supposed to be on another VIP coach. However, that did'nt happen and lets just say I've been in better ...
Siem Reap, Cambodia claire_noel... how amazing they are. I got up early to get to Angkor Watt for sunrise - definitely worth it! It's already very busy by then so it's a bit of a struggle to find a good spot but the view is amazing. My favourite temple was definitely Ta Prohm... the only bit I didn't like was construction of some kind of viewing platform in the middle of the temple. Power tools and the modern structure right in the middle of the temple ...

I was left behind by our team after taking this shot... Well at least not only me alone, Noel ...
... to have skipped the food, though, as the three-hour cab ride we took from Poipet to Siem Reap was along the bumpiest road I've ever seen in my life, or rather - collection of potholes. My head came close to hitting the roof a couple of times.
Thirteen hours later, at 6:00pm, - and looking extremely disgusting, might I add - we finally arrived at our hostel in Siem Reap. We ate dinner, and we went to bed.
