... is married and lives on a boat on the Tonle Sap (a sad sign of extreme poverty), and took one of her brothers to live with her, and there is another older sibling that we haven't learnt much about – in fact I keep hearing mixed stories on whether there are nine children or ten. As is always the case with these situations, its difficult to get an accurate picture of the situation immediately. We have a new member of staff at COF, a local ...

Gene is a retired surgeon who, instead of heading for the golf club on retirement, uprooted to work unpaid in the third world, where he has been for the last eight years. A quick call was made to check the correct course of action and within half an hour I arrived with Araget and some of our support team.
We took our place politely at the back of a huge queue, some of whom ...

Siem Reap, little city surrounded by hundreds of temple and ruins that formed once the city of angkor, capital of the huge Khmer Kingdom which included part of what is today Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
When London only had 60 000 inhabitants, angkor was already a megalopole hosting more than 1 million people...
After a full morning of walking around one of the Angkor sites I'd come back and indulge in a dirt cheap massage. Since the price was right I decided to experiment with different ones. The first afternoon I tried a traditional Khmer massage. I was asked to change clothes, put on a cotton pajama-like shirt and pants and were kneaded and stretched oil-free. It incorporated general massage techniques and also reflexology and "participation" massage. This is ...

As an example of driving behaviour, is totally acceptable over here to pull out of a side street, and if you cannot cross to the correct side of the road, then travel on the opposite side of the road until you can cross. What this means is that you are in a tuk tuk travelling on the opposite side of the road into oncoming traffic. It is also ok (on a single carriageway road) to overtake 3 abreast, and to ...

The drive over to this blind school was quite uncomfortable due to the elevation in our driver's pissiness towards us. Michael and I by this point agreed that this would be the last time he would take us anywhere and that we would rent bikes for the rest of our stay. The $7 massage at the school for the blind was really interesting and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was interesting because ...
... had many stone piles blocking doors and entrance ways. This temple is less visited and it absolutely stunning. At Angkor Wat, this was my favorite temple.
At all of these temples, the guards give you free rane to go wherever you want and to climb anything you see. Of course this probably isn't the best thing for the temples, but it allows you to see rooms that are not accessible by pathways. I had such a great time here and am sad to leave.
... of restaurants and shops. There's an alley, called "the alley", where a large majority of eateries are located. It's a nice, tiled walkway and all the places are hiply appointed and seemingly new. I stumbled upon a vegetarian place that was really dynamite, although the waitress left something to be desired...Afterward, I went over to a craft shop that supports local communities and made a few gift purchases before heading back to the hotel to get some sleep. It was going to be an early day.

We ran to another side to take a different view of the tree..
