LAMU ROAD Malindi, Kenya, Ph-00254-042-83026
... on a Matatu in the village of Jilore. The reason why this is a necessity is bc there is no food in my village and the closest market town is Malindi and everyone knows I like to eat a lot and food does not stay long without refrigeration. I plan on investing in a raft and just floating down the river to avoid Matatu's bc of their fares and uncomfortable sitting arrangements. I love the lack of organization but at times feel overwhelmed bc these people believe I am ...
Garashi, Coast, Kenya mns9184... with Digo names. 'Baraka' (Ant) and 'Amina' (Lucy) - meaning 'blessing' and 'amen' - by Ali the Shifoga chairman.

It now seems that after San Siro the whole town knows our names and we can't go anywhere without hearing "Baraka’ or 'Amina’ being yelled across the marketplace. Ho hum.

Last weekend we went up the coast to Gedi and Watamu. Gedi has some excellent ruins of a 15th century village which were really ...

Malindi, Kenya journeykenyaWe caught a Matatu all the way to Malindi from Mombasa ( not the most comfortable 2 hours, but very reasonably priced at 2 pounds. We would have gone by proper bus but couldn't find the bus station. In Malindi it was raining heavily, but our hotel was comfortable and empty. We went to the local Italian for dinner, which we couldn't find but collected another new friend on the way who ...
Malindi, Kenya brisko... peelers etc etc... Jules and I set out to the local Nakumat supermarket to stock up. we filled a trolley as below: we did this a few times to keep stock levels up, and on being given the task of cleaning the showers out we decided we needed some heavey duty cleaning products to attack with, Sam and I also bought some sand and cement to replace the glass on top of ...
Tumaini Home, Kenya andyb... I had been teleported from poverty stricken, dusty Africa straight into Italy. Sick, twisted and old Italian men were accompanied by the local *****s, and there wasn't a word of Swahili or English to be heard! Uri was a friend living in Cape Town, who came from Malindi and was visiting his family for the holidays and attending a wedding. His parents owned and manage the plush Woburn Residence Club, a swish complex with giant marble bathrooms. We went by to ...
Malindi, Kenya dcm... Hope ye understand [and don't give me too much of a hard time over it ,-) !] In any case, I'll be hoping for plenty of guests so there's plenty of notice for ye too... NOT that Wardie's Blog is signing out anytime soon though!!! I'm off to Johannesburg on Friday and after that have 3+ weeks of being Wardie the smelly backpacker again. (Though I am planning a 5 star hotel for my last 2 nights in Cape Town... Naturally!)
Mombasa, Kenya wardie... justice - so as you can imagine, petty theft doesn't happen too often. You do tend to get a lot of street children coming up to you begging for money or asking to be taken in and bought chicken and chips(!) and there's a fair amount of lepers and other unfortunates by the side of the road too but you can't take it upon yourself to help all of them i guess. Tough to see though all the same. As i mentioned before, i will write a proper account of Jambo ...
Mtwapa, Kenya wardie... with the other projects I've been dealing with throughout the trip. We have plenty of farmers to visit while I'm here. The coast here is hot, hot, hot and humid. I can't stop sweating. It is supposed to be raining every day, but there hasn't been any since friday. Few people have water to spare. Margaret let me stay in her home, where we're using the backup water tank.
