Elm Villa, Tortola, BVI – This place is a find.

My family and I rented Elm Villa for a week this summer and loved it. We give it top marks all around. This villa is not your typical rental property. It is clearly a second home, which the owners rent out part of the year.

In residence at the villa is a full time housekeeper, Mariel, who lives in a separate basement apartment. Mariel makes a big difference to ...
Cane Garden Bay, Virgin Islands British jhtradewayThrough most of our stay, our decision to go to this beach or that island was made in the moment, but a trek out to Virgin Gorda required a little planning. The ferry only sailed twice a week from Red Hook and left at 8:00 am, generally the time we were just stirring. The nearly three hour journey was so incredibly worth it though. It was lovely sailing past the islands of St. John, Tortola, and countless smaller cayes, some of which were incredibly steep ...
Virgin Gorda, Virgin Islands British travelin_rpcvsAfter 3 weeks at the Rudwell's holiday cottage in Florida and glorious respite from being on the road, we headed towards the Virgin Islands (catching up with family friends in Ft Lauderdale along the way). We met up with my Dad and Lulu who we hadn't seen since we crossed the Atlantic, for now what seems many moons ago (although it was only 6 months previous). Lulu appeared to remember us as we were greeted with a thousand licks and ...
Road Town, Tortola, Virgin Islands British emma2... likes to take over a conversation, even when he can't follow what it's about because of language difficulties. He also uses the fact that he doesn't always understand to ignore the captain and do his own thing, much to the exasperation of the captain. He amuses us with improbable, crude and frequent tales of his sexual exploitations. Apparently he often gives girls a choice of the type of sex they ...
Prickly Pear Island - Virgin Gorda, Virgin Islands British emma2Dear Blog,

Welcome to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, home for sun worshippers and yachtmen alike. The constant winds along the Sir Francis Drake Channel make it ideal for sailing conditions while the secluded beaches, incredible vistas make the islands a wonderful place to visit. Well, here I am today ready to see all of this! The island was once known as a hideway for pirates and freebooters. Cool!

The British Virgin Islands ...
Tortola, Virgin Islands British momentsintime... so far has been on the north of Virgin Gorda, The Bitter End Yacht club which is a resort/yacht club designed for the tourists and the yachties. It's set in a larger harbour and is simply gorgeous, beautiful blue water, plenty of moorings, great on shore facilities and use of the resort to relax in, just paradise. We managed to spend 4 days here relaxing on the beach, playing on the hobie cats and trying out the beer and nibbles at the various bars around ...
Road Harbour, Tortola, Virgin Islands British bellavita... could not see the bottom for all the fish. Pelicans were diving and catching fish all around one as well.

Leaving Monkey Point, we sailed for a while on a beam/broad-reach. It was all-surfing in the channel between Tortola and Jose van Dyke. Once we made the turn for the run down Tortola, however, we had to motor-sail with just the jib. We had no problem spotting the passage to Cane Garden Bay. Zipped in and picked up a mooring.

Because we were "in" early, we took ...
Road Town, Tortola, Virgin Islands British stupidbunny... not queasy, but my body was like, "Whoa, this is not normal!" so I sat up in front of the cockpit where the boat had the least motion for most of the trip. Snorkeling at the Indians was amazing; the rocks go almost straight down to the bottom, and the water is so clear you can see the whole way down. Coral grows on the bottom and all up and down the rocks, and you can get as close as you want - no sections roped off or ...
