      ... area. Thessaloniki is right in the heart of ancient Macedonia, the ancient stomping grounds of Alexander the Great and his family, and there are quite a few homages to him throughout the city - including the advertisement for the "Alexander the Great Rock Opera" that I saw today. Tomorrow and Wednesday I'll be at a couple of sites outside of the city before flying back to Istanbul on Thursday - and from now on, all flights will occur on separate days :).

      Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.

      The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

      ... bottle which was only 12% proof, and he did have some pure distilled raki which David said you could fuel a rocket with! We laughed all the way home and figured we were probably his best customers for weeks!

      A bit further on we came across a lovely bakery in a little village and bought 2 bread rolls, a piece of milk custard cake and two small yummy cakes. It made us feel better about the bag of motley fruit! ...

      ... with a glass of wine and watching the world go by. Mykonos is renowned for it's windmills but we had no desire to go hunting for them. Some people had hired quad bikes but knowing our luck, we'd fall off. Other than the white washed houses and windmills, Mykonos has a reputation as a party town. Apparently there are some beaches that have activities that are far from family friendly so you need to be careful.

      ... 10, or even 5 years time from now I’ll look back at this time and remind myself of “how good those were the days”, and for that, I can only feel positive vibes through my struggles of complete and utter exhaustion.
