It is thickly planted with trees and gardens, which are amazingly green. One of the first things you notice about Mendoza is the large irrigation ditches which line practically every street. That's how they have such beautiful greenery despite the dry and hot climate. ... the world. We made some reservations and grabbed a taxi to Lujan de Cuyo just outside of town. First stop was Renacer. We opted to skip the tour and go straight to the tastings. The wine was pretty good and we were also invited to do a blending exercise using three of their unfinished wines to make one we liked. We had nuts and raisins, crackers and lots of wine. Next was Archaval Ferrer, which is not only one of the best wine makers in Mendoza, but in the world. ...

... time we got back to Mendoza some workmen had cut through a water main so there was no water to wash the last of the sick off with. Instead spoke to a Canadian guy called Chris who had just flown in to climb Aconcagua solo. Good luck that man! And so to bed in furnace room.

Next day Ruth’s love of wine was just enough to overpower the will to stay in and be poorly, so we made it out to Maipu to hire bikes and visit some vineyards. ...
