After a short visit in Bangkok, we made our way over to Phuket, Thailand. After reading a lot of good and not so good reviews on the place we weren't exactly sure what to think. It is a good reflection of how we do feel about it here. Phuket is like the Vegas of Thailand if you go to the wrong (or right) spot. After being in Egypt, we were both looking forward to getting to a place and relaxing with some Westerners for a bit. But it kinda got old quick....
While it is a very beautiful is...

... a 4 day/night live aboard boat leaving the next evening so booked myself on that and then chilled out for the rest of the day. On the night I found an Aussie sport bar which was showing the India v Australia 5th ODI so watched that (One where the Aussies set India 350 to win and Tendalkar hit 175 - but still India lost). Next day I just lazed around on the beach waiting for the bus to take me to my dive boat.

The next 4 days ...
Patong, Phuket, Thailand bazzrosetravels... at a nearby 7-11 just before I reached the building since I was so hot and thank god they didn't have the machine because I would have had to beg a stranger for money to make the copies. After waiting about an hour I finally got everything squared away but for anyone that needs a new passport please know that you have to get a new visa as well. Gargh! Wat Mahathat- This is one of the oldest shrines in Bangkok and houses the Buddhist University as well as the ...
patong, Thailand carrienica05... a more upright one. Alas, I bleat too much: a showing of the movie In Bruges brightened my countenance considerably and provided some much-needed escapism. THREE: a long-distance seated bus. After being yanked rather hurriedly off the sleeper bus - my eyes were still gummed and ringed underneath with deep purple moons from my almost nonexistent slumber - we were dumped into a travel agency and presented with two options: (A) We wait around for ...
Phuket, Thailand kasey_kid... shop selling different types of cashew nuts and titbits with a small 'factory' inside! The chocolate cashew nuts are very nice, must try! We really enjoyed tasting and shopping in the shop! Almost 5pm, Mr Charlee wanted to drive us to Phuket Town's Central Festival but our 3 Princesses were pestering us to go back to the hotel so that they could go to the beach! So we told Mr Charlee to send us back instead! NOTE: Mr Charlee was a honest guide ...
Phuket, Thailand sc_myinitialHi Guys! So after my last blog we went on the boat trip to four islands. THe tour was well organized and got picked up early in the morning to get dropped off at the pier to go on the boat. Then we started heading for the James Bond Island where part of the movie for "The man with a Gold Gun" was filmed. It was very nice...until our memory card completely bugged. We could still take pictures with our camera ...
Phuket, Thailand ericabg... Rob can't believe that even in Phuket, we are running into people at shopping centres. We find the Bata shop and spend a Thai fortune on kids shoes. We buy 8 pairs of shoes for around THB2400, which is approx $10 per pair. They are all groovy and funky and good quality. Happy! We then catch a taxi to Robinson's Department Store in Phuket Town - still in the shopping trance- and walk to Ocean Plaza which is Phuket's version of Bangkok's MBK,complete ...
Patong, Thailand tric1003... M.I.T. in Los Angeles. The two Rogers! Roger the drummer shortly thereafter arrived on his scooter with sidecar to move me out. It was a little like the Batman TV series. Don't go there. Anyway, we scooted back to my new abode and moved in, but not before I had a proper and rigorous rundown of all the pertinent and just downright thoughtful and polite rules of the establishment. He doesn't call it the Orchid Gardens for nothing. But his ...
Phuket, Thailand taishan... to the scenic turnoffs that had been placed every half mile in front of their homes. If they wanted seclusion from the general public, they should not have moved to where a public road sits between their front lawn and the ocean. Suspicious or not, we still had a right to be there just as much as they did. Despite my heartfelt belief that we were once again in the right and were being pushed around by a group of people who didnt give a damn ...
Phuket, Thailand nealinthailand... main land, we tucked into the left overs of the buffet that was included in our trip. Because of the vast numbers of people doing the same tour and that most of them didn't do a second snorkeling session, there wasn't much left. It was good though but it didn't include drinks unfortunately. We spent a further two hours at our leisure down on the beach. We can see why Phi Phi was devastated by the 2002 Tsunami - The Island consists of two large rock formations joined ...
