Delanipur Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, 232642
Day 1: Set off from Chennai towards port Blair. The aerial view of the Andamans is breathtaking! Landed in the small port Blair airport at around 12:00 PM. Took a rick to a a govt. Guest house (Andaman teal house) and asked for accommodation. After some deliberation and talking to the director of tourism board, managed to get a double bedroom non-AC acco for 400/- a day!!! While the other places the rates were a couple of thousands. We freshened ourselves in the room and had lunch at the same...
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India ibm_k... Islands should be on the cards when visiting Andaman as its a place blessed with beauty, whether its the dense forests or the stunning beaches, and yet having that unexplored look which only happens when people are still unaware that such places exist. The pace of life is slow and one looses all sense of time. But thats what holidays are meant to be.

It was an amazing trip which will be remembered forever for the peace it gave and the adventure it brought in my life.

Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India mywanderlust... many players as you want as long as you have an extra deck or two for larger groups. Besides the yummy new foods we tried, I always got a few sweet curds to put in the fridge for breakfast the next morning to eat with freshly cut mango, YUM! We had all kinds of plans to finally catch up on our writing and take a few boat rides out and explore some of the neighboring islands. Ultimately though, we gave in to our usual high-speed life and didn't get nearly as much ...
Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India carrienica05... speeding up the hill dodging and darting around the many tut-tuts on the road. It appeared that with every traffic maneuver that an individual vehicle made it would be started with a sounding of the vehicle's horn. This was the Aberdeen Bazaar. And into the mix of this scene was added an occasional dog, goat and even cow walking with impunity throughout the area. As the smell we first noticed at the pier grew stronger with our entry into town, we realized it was not the smell ...
Port Blair, India danharriet... canada. we have an awesome time together with her sister and the friends from the ferry. next day is snorkle time and we see some great fish and i work diligently on my tan. this place was heaven on earth, really. the stars in the sky came out to play at night and it was silent with the exception of quarreling dogs. the last day i rented a scooter and expored all the roads on the island. not many but they took me ...
Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India horizon_chaser... and booze to even approach a nap on a plane, and as of now you need a prescription for Valium in the US. So being on a plane for more than a few hours is like being in jail for me. And I've been to jail, man (tax evasion - I don't like to talk about it except to let people know that I have something in common with Wesley Snipes). I mean, yeah, there are more entertainment selections on your average Delta seat-back screen than there are in the average county clink, but I'm ...
Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India ninedeuce... behind the clouds, we felt dog-tired and deserved some sleep after a long day.

Our jeep driver, Rabindra Mandal, has been a third generation young islander...his grandfather settled in Havelock in late 50's. Rabindra reiterated the prosperity of Bengali resettlers basking on the agricultural income from their New Found Land. He showed us the newly commissioned solar power facility for the island with a large array of silicon panels. Rabindra pointed out the ...
Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India soumitra.biswas... simple yet tasty main course is followed up by fresh bananas which are handed out by the bunch. The only thing that is disconcerting, now, is the thought of the long bus ride back. We cross over to Baratang Jetty to find that there is a change in the bus. The replacement is one row short, which means that we are relegated to the last one - which is more a bench than a seat. And one that is not even fixed...every hundred metres and the whole bench ...
Port Blair, India p.rajesh... Hotel. This consisted of a collection of huts similar to where we had stayed at Coconut Grove and when we arrived the place had only been open ten days which meant they hadn't finished building several facilities, such as the toilets. The place had a freshly hewn smell. Woodwork was not yet mouldering and a path to the beach had been freshly hacked with machetes. A new sign warned locals to 'Keep out'. The lodge was owned by a businessman from Chennai and, as such, lacked the ...
Neil Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India jasonhep... to leave he alone. '****ing ****' said the German.

Unfortunately there were no there dive centres open so Atilla had a monopoly over diving in the islands in the week we were there. The day we went out with him he was boasting of the fact that soon a cruise ship with one hundred and fifty (soon to be disappointed) German divers would be landing and could barely prevent himself from licking his lips as he did so. I had intended to do an advanced course on ...
