... I’ve learned the word super in Japanese as I felt pretty good when one woman called me Super Mom. We soon made it over the hump and began the long descent. It had rained the previous day and the moss covered stones and wet leaves were pretty slick. Fortunately in many places a strip of dirt separated the stone path from the embankment which allowed for surer footing. Despite often needing to go safe and slow, we were making good progress. I was happy to discover ...

... consisting of a number of small varied dishes. And varied they are. At one point Mary's cousin exclaims "well, I think there is something edible in there." ... trip is up. Once breakfast was done we packed up what was left in our room and headed to the subway. We needed to catch a train a bit further away so it was a bit more of a walk through Ginza going against the flow of businessmen in suits heading to work. The bullet train ride was only about 25 minutes before we got to the nearest station to Hakone ...

Today at breakfast we were seated at the other side of the room where the printed placements reflected the names of the towers we could view. Yesterday's placements depicted that view and we pity the poor trainee who might muck the placemats up! After receiving such attention to her personal meal requirements, they must have been happy to wave Naomi off. Just as well we still had Kaoru (our guide) to help us navigate our way to Shinjuku station, though the unforgiving ticket gates ...

    Gardens, mountains and cloud

... get ready to summit. The summit is at 3771m and should probably take no more than an hour from where we were, but the path is so narrow and rocky that with the crowds it is a stop-start conga line to the top and took about two hours. We then waited in the cold and wind for the sun to finally peak above the clouds. We were actually really lucky to see the sunrise as I don't think anyone will have done after us, and it was quite breath taking. Despite the weather forecast, ...
