... we got to one where nearly everyone got off so we thought it was the stop but weren't sure. It wasn't very well signposted but then saw the platform signs to Gora. I knew that's where we were headed so we were on the right track. We were travelling with our bags which didn't help. I had planned to send our bags ahead from Tokyo to Kyoto but the hotel didn't answer my request in time. I had read about the baggage transfer to hotel service from ...

... and I definitely had to try this (first time!). For those who don't know onsen: it's a natural hot spring and these can be found all across Japan. It comes with it's own rituals. Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...

After two beautiful days of weather today was horrible. It rained a lot but worst of all it was foggy which was less than ideal for what we had planned for the day. We were booked onto a day trip to visit Mount Fuji and Hakone National Park. Our first stop was Mount Fuji. The plan was to drive to the 5th station, however the weather prevented this with the road up closed due to snow. We were only able to get as far as the 1st station where we could see pretty ...
