Antofagasta, Chile malvada... in the hostal. Three of them were staying in the room next to me. The bathrooms sealed the deal and this just confirmed it: Residencial El Cobre is not Katie´s idea of a cozy hostal. I think I´ll opt for sleeping on the bus on the 12 hr overnight ride to La Serena. Bradt guide, you hadn´t let me down yet but now I don´t know if I can trust you. It´s funny the relationship you have with you guidebook when travelling.
Antofagasta, Chile ktkingunc... mall, a defunct chain of anti-smoking virals, expensive hotels that begun construction during the copper boom and stand half completed and skeletal in the onslaught of the current financial recession. A motorway service station given the keys to the council planning office. Old habits die hard, and little Victor found himself drawn to populating his lifes work with the nightmare creatures of his heritage. Banshees, werewolves and vampires prowl the sun ...
Antofagasta, Chile somethingology... of the rocks protruding from the gravel and with the weight of the gear on the back of the bike I didn,t fancy getting a punture but the ride was worth the effort with the pacific ocean a mere 100 metres to your left and 100 metres to your right were mountains towering above you. The road vered back inland and it followed a narrow gap at the base of the adjoining ...
Tocopilla, Chile chileadventure... was.... ******. The second day, I was feeling a lot better. This was a long day of driving, we had to get to Bahia Inglesa which was 490Km away. We stopped at Dinosaur Canyon which was a massive dried up river bed where loads of dinosaur bones were found. I didn't find any... * I'm on the bus again (next day), and we are listening to someone's Ipod. It's currently playing 50 Cent. All his music seems to be about guns, money, crime and oral ...
Antofagasta, Chile here_lies_paul... went to this place called Bahia Inglesa ... a well know tourist attraction. I could definitely see the appeal .. it was beautiful and in the summer it is probably the hot spot to go to. There are even penguins that come up on the beach. We didn't see any when we were there but thats what we had heard. And yes we layed on the beach... we were wrapped up in hoodies and pants but we layed on the beach. Somehow I even managed to burn my feet and face.. go figure! Today we took another ...
Iquique, Chile jefweynsPurely a destination of convenience, the point at which we skip a couple of thousand miles of bus journey and take the sensible option of a flight. Iquique is a bizarre town that feels like it is in the wild west era. The overnight stopover was however vastly improved by great sushi!!!
Iquique, Chile emma_steve80My bus arrived in Iquque around 4 am, but they let us sleep on the bus until 8. After finding a hostel and having a little nap, I went out to buy my bus ticket to Santiago, and check out the town. The town square was really nice, however, not a lot too look at. So I headed to the beach, where I sat and watched the waves and the surfers for about 3 hours. It is always nice to just relax and have nothing ...
Iquique, Chile wyoming20... some really good surfs and also managed to hit my head on the rock bottom on my first wave and give myself a top egg. We spent about 4 days in Iquique and was sad to leave but the surf was getting small and we needed to move on. We caught yet another bus (which didnt crash) inland to a small town called San Pedro where we were told we could do a 3 day tour of the salt flats in Uyuni Bolivia. San Pedro was the sort of ...
