March of the Penguins - Aussie Style

... so you can get quite close to see them, although they move really slowly so the workers put up protectiver barriers so you can't get too close. And man are they cute! Most of them were simply perched in the trees sleeping. Every now and then you would see one look around sleepily, scratch a bit and go back to sleep. There was one mom and baby joey, but the positon they were in the tree you couldn't see the joey. Maybe next time.
<br ...

All part and parcel..

... In a couple of hours I'll be in Port Melbourne boarding the ferry to Tasmania with my old mucker... Chicken. That's right. It's been a whole year and now she's back for more chapters in the wild and wonderful world of Woz wickedness. Bring it on. Next stop: Devonport, Tasmania. The crossing's about eleven hours so there should be plenty of time for a catch-up cuddle and a few coldies at the ferry bar..

Holiday Within A Holiday

... cost a sizeable chunk of a week's accommodation, so instead we booked a seaside minibreak 140km south of Melbourne.

On arrival on a cheap but slow bus, we were pleased to find that what appeared to be a rather pricey double room was in fact a cheap (for Victoria) caravan park cabin, so we have been luxuriating with our own bathroom, kitchen, TV and sofa. With the beach 5 minutes away and the supermarket even closer it has all ...

Phillip Island, Penguins!

At 9 PM, as I sat there on the bleachers constructed for the purpose, in the dark distance I see 2 penguins clamber over the dark pile of seaweed at the breakwater. They make their way as only penguins can right up to a patch of sand, about 10 feet in front of me. As they preen and waddle about a bit, the crowd gasps and points excitedly as we realize two entire groups, 'rafts' they call them, have ...

... get up early and watch them go out (less crowded that way too) but by the time I got here I think they had left. Went out to the end of the island and did get to see a few penguins sheltering under the boardwalk, as well as the Nobbies, large pretty islands of nesting seabirds and seals. Finally had a shower to tame my kiting hairdo, but time to move on even though this is a very pretty island. Hopefully somewhere the flies can't find me!

"You can be my wingman anytime" "******** - you can be mine" Top Gun I've just been re-reading the entry I posted earlier. It's a regular thing I do - I don't notice typos as I'm writing so I need to give it a few hours. I think there's a reason for this, which has something to do with rereading something you've only just written being replaced in your mind by the version that was in your head at the time. But that really isn't the point. The point is, I noticed that it was ...

One Year Later

"Where are all the good men dead? In the heart, or in the head?" Gross Point Blank "If you can't spot the sucker at the table in thirty seconds flat..... You are the sucker" Rounders Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. I won't even start with my usual apology for Travelpod Tardiness - when you start to get e-mails from close friends asking if you're dead, you know a simple 'I'm sorry' probably won't cut it. The truth is, we passed our one year anniversary ...

On the up!

... have been free! I swear, if that had been in England it wouldn't taken weeks, possibly months! I like their health system at least! So, all done in a day! I applied for the visa online last night and posted the x-rays off today so I should have the visa by Monday-ish! Then, just to add to my happiness I won a free Mars Bar last night! Yey! It may sound minor but it was a huuuge deal to me! Today, fate also shone ...
