Check out at 11 and set off for San Simeon, Rich's choice for tonight's
stop half way down the coast. Lots more waves and coastal things along
the drive, probably the least exciting part of the pacific highway.
Near San Simeon we find somewhere with lots and lots of MASSIVE
elephant seals, mainly sleeping on the shore making Rich-like noises
and a few fighting in ...
San Simeon, California, United States rich_charlotte... and stretch your legs.
After a lunch, we headed up the coast, stopping frequently to take pictures and walk. There are plenty of pull outs along this stretch of road. We skipped stopping in Harmony, originally a hippie commune, as it is now way too commercial. We did stop at San Simeon, below the Hearst Castle. We did not take the tour, as we have both been there several times. But the little town below is quaint with an old ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... it, but I had and Mom said no, she wasn't interested.
We drove up through Santa Barbara and moved over to Highway 1 when it became available. Again, you drive through farmland and vineyards. Lots of horses in sight. Finally we came to Morro Bay. You cannot miss it, with both the Rock that Morro Bay is named for that is a monolith, and for the large power plant with its' three tall stacks. It took a bit to find the hotel ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... finally!) and picked up the keys for a few properties to look around. The houses were massive and it was a bit surreal looking round all these empty holiday homes. We finally picked one that had ocean views from the front deck. After settling in, we went straight to the grocery store to stock up on food. Jim cooked meatballs and spaghetti - just what we had been craving. We spent the rest of the night exploring the house. Most of it looked like it ...
Cambria, California, United States jimandlaurawell what a day we've had. we woke in san fran to a heavy fog so the things we wanted to do we couldn't see! we found Lombard street and so did the windy road thing. we made our way to under the G/Gate Bridge and walked to the beginning of the bridge but we could barely see it-all you could hear was foghorns! so we left san fran and headed south. we got off the freeway for a coffee and found this place called ...
Cayucos, California, United States loopyl00... salsa beforehand, spilling your crumbs onto real cotton napkins. The real thing. The formal set up and operation of the place really don't match the price to my eye. Paying less than 10 dollars for a pizza I would expect minimalist service.
And the waiter that dealt with the bill called me "boss".
Morro Bay is a mixture of allsorts, with a chilled feel. Tucked at the ...
Morro Bay, California, United States jeremyhillDay 187 Morro Bay - Hearst Castle As indicated yesterday, we re-booked in for another night stay over here near the beach, although not warm enough for swimming, it is nice to have the ocean at our back door. We set off to revisit Hearst Castle and take one of the other tours we had yet to enjoy. Arriving at around 10:20am we chose tour 2, this takes in the upstairs bedrooms, including Hearst private rooms and bedroom. We had an hour to wait until the tour left, so ...
Morro Bay, California, United States popusa2008... behind him and he was yelling for joy. Everyone was so excited. On Wednesday, we went down to Mission San Luis Obispo which was under going restoration (this along with fog and iffy wifi became a theme of the trip so far. The wifi was down when we got here and I was alarmed but the wifi at Morro Dunes was quite good once it came back up that night.) The mission grounds are really beautiful and the part of the mission that we could see was really nice-the missions ...
Morro Bay, California, United States patgower... most amazing furniture, generally plundered from other countries. There is a fireplace in the hall around 15ft high and an enormous Book of Gregorian Chants (about 4ft by 2ft). We saw the Greek-style pools and the indoor Roman Sap. The castle was a pretty amazing place and I was glad we went. We left Hearst Castle and returned to Morro Bay. We decided to take a walk around the town, discovering little was open, then out to ...
Morro Bay, California, United States loxiasAfter
a terrible night of fearful driving, we made it to the hotel and were
lucky to be alive, so we went for a visit of the Hearst Castle. This is
a mansion/castle built by W.R.Hearst and it just amazing. It sits on
900 acres of land, on top of a hill with stunning vies of the ocean.
The tour is very informational and the castle is beautiful inside.
Driving on to Solvang, we passed through rolling hills of ...
