The Iya valley is sold in the guidebooks as undiscovered hidden Back to nature Japan. So I was ready for a rushing river and long hikes. And then there is the famous vine bridge crossing the Iya river, a feat of old timey engineering. But I should have remembered that in Japan , if there is something cool to see there is definitely going to be bus parking. So, I stayed in a little guesthouse ,Kel Na Sob, perched ...

... As we were running out of time before the park was due to close we practically ran around the park and managed to do most of the 1hr & 40 minute walk in 30 minutes, whilst also carrying 15kg each!!

... had another little friend during a part of my hike. Someone I easily preferred to people. He came running out of a garden and came down the hill barking and acting all tough so first I was a bit intimidated. But Mr Red turned out to be friendly and walked alongside me for quite some time. I gave him the choice to either live in my backpack for 7 weeks and then go to Scotland or to run along home. Unfortunately he chose to run off home. Bye Mr Red, I'll miss you! ...

... see 'Dogma' or 'Clerks' or any other movie they're in. One never speaks. One never shut the hell up! And these two towns men were just like that. On top of everything Japanese elderly Jay phoned his wife who came up the mountain in her car with more food, beer and sake. Sacred henro hut turned into party hut. And I found a Mukade (poisonous centipede) hovering above my backpack. Typical. I fell asleep early (surprise!) but woke up by heavy crying. Young henro guy was sobbing his ...
