... cheddar. The older locals don’t speak English. I try to buy small quantity but the sell it by the kilo (2.2 lbs). I ask for 300 grams from one guy. He shows me he has a scale (this is one of the balance types) with only two weights, half and full kilo so I buy a half kilo and later give plenty away to other backpackers. I also see bottles of a local alcohol that is colored purple and has lots of small berries floating in it. I get a taste it is pretty good. I am not sure what it ...
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania will.travellerSibiu is a delightful city, small - about 250 000 people, but ready to make your staying one of the best in Romania.
The city, on its German name Hermannstadt, was founded in the 12 century and in 2007 was Cultural European Capital.
The Bruckenthal Palace in the Big Plaza, today an art museum and the Evangelic Cathedral are worth a 2-3 hour visit.
Also, climbing all the way up in the Council Tower , the 12 century gate of SIbiu, let us see the city from above.
Great place!
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania claudiarebecca... up to a glacial lake in what I think are the Carpathian mountains. The lake itself had beautiful clear water and a really good view all around. It was also FREEZING up there, so I'm wearing many layers and at one point had my scarf wrapped around my head to protect me from the wind. It's amazing that I was standing in a tropical dress in Maramures only a few days ago.

Next, we went to visit a ranch/stable for ...
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania sarakmills... he stopped harrassing this one cat.

I have two roommates tonight. They are two girls from Montreal backpacking through Eastern Europe. They are also doing some couchsurfing along the way as well. They said that they have had some amazing experiences from it as well. It really is a great thing and I wished I would have done more of it. Next time I come back to Europe I will. I am already thinking that I would love to check out the Balkan countries.
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania kateb75... Sibiu I was immediately enthralled. They have lots of houses that have these eye lid like windows on the roofs. It is very cool. The town is very medieval looking and again it doesn't have the touristy vibe that any other country that I have been to had. I can't understand why there aren't more. It is great here. Sibiu was the European Cultural Capitol in 2007 and had gotten some boost in it's tourism from that. It also has a small airport ...
Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania kateb75... lined with an excellent array of sidewalk cafes and some of the best people watching I've had since Thailand. It does have an arty feel somewhat befitting of a town with its title. The women look fantastic. In bars and restaurants 'Romanian service' was the order of the day. So don't mind waiting. The quality was always good. There are only a handful of hostels Sibiu as it has only found its place on the backpacker trail in the last few ...

Sibiu, Romania rob22... was, I couldn't shake it from my head. I'm not known as being culturally sensitive, so suck it. (FYI, the people were seemingly very kind, and I have no evidence of their breeding, but to me it seemed that way. Just a feeling.) Upon leaving the store, we walked to the edge of town and ate the cookies and chips we'd brought along as snacks. We finished off our first water bottle and opened the new one. After a few minutes, we headed out, taking what we thought were our last steps ...
Medias, Romania danielwolfe... hitchhike, strangly enough. but we decided to try anyway. after waiting about 30 minutes i had just about given up, i dint really care if we had sleep under the trees or soemthing but alex really wanted to get out of there so i just sat down and a car stops and takes us all the way to brasov! we had some good convo, i put on some of my music and he liked it. about hald way there we stoped in this hick town for a coffee and it was seriously the strangest place ever. like a big dance ...
Sibiu, Romania petergustafsonSo, we all know what Transylvania is famous for, and we all know it is a load of ********, well, most of you do, but we decided to go and see for ourselves Cluj Napoka We caught the train from Bukovina back to Cluj. We had been here before, on the way to Cluj, so once off, we went back to the little old lady who had taken us to her place again. Lucy went, found out that the room was taken, but we could stay with her daughter. The room was the same price, but much nicer. Bargain. We ...
