Pretty good stay!
Stayed recently, thought we were getting a suite with washer and dryer, but not all the rooms have them, so make sure to ask for one. They moved us with no problem so it worked out. So much room, liked having breakfast in our room, saved a lot of money. So tired after all day at the parks, we ate in most of the time, nice kitchen and family room. Very tropical setting, love all the palm trees, parked right at our door. No more hotels for us.
Don't set your foot in the place
They overbooked, I had to wait until 5:30 in the morning to find a room. We (wife and kids) reached the hotel at 12:00 in the night. The president was a very callous person asking us to find another room at 4:00 am in the morning. Very bad room too, no water, other problems which never got corrected. Expect no service from anyone, in case something goes wrong with your room. Find a motel you are probably guaranteed a better stay than this hell hole.
Wow, what a great resort
Our family had a very enjoyable stay, when we arrived we didnt even have to get out of our car to check in, the guard at the front gate checked us in rather quickly, and we were soon relaxing in our townhome, watching TV and making dinner in the kitchen. That night we were called by someone and we were invited to a complimentary continental breakfast the following morning. The whole stay was great, the rates were unbelievableand the staff very friendly. I will tell all my friends and family about this fine resort. We will be back..
What a great place
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The rooms were so comfortable I forgot it wasn't my own home. They even gave me internet access during my stay so I could keep in touch. Island Club West is terrific and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a home away from home.
Stay Away -They Ruined Our Vacation They Overbooked - Offered Us a Room w/no Furniture. We were stranded w/no place to go during President's/Race week...Now, a Month Later, They are trying to charge me double the Reservation Rate!
We were drawn by the low rates, the attractive look of the property on the Expedia Web site, and the availability of kitchenettes. We had had a good experience with a similar, but more expensive, condo on Maui, also booked through Expedia. But we were sorely disappointed. Our "kitchenette" had no table, utensils or plates. The interior door connecting our room to the next unit was unlocked -- and couldn't be locked with our room key. There was no phone book to call local restaurants, and when I called 411 for information, I was charged $1 per call. Each morning, before we set out for the day, I called the hotel's front desk to have the problems fixed. Each night when we came back to our room, we were disappointed (and the front desk was closed every evening). I suspect Island Club West is more interested in sellling condo units than in serving short-term visitors. We stayed in February '03, and I also suspect that because of its cheap construction, Island Club will be an eyesore in a few years.
Just got back from a wonderful vacation at the Island Club West Resort. We had a fabulous deal on a four bedroom townhome! We enjoyed spending a couple days at Disney and also enjoyed just being able to relax around the pool at the resort. Enjoyed the food at the Tiki Bar and thought the prices were very reasonable. Everyone was so very friendly. Thanks Island Club West for a memorable vacation!
Island Club West Resort
We stayed at Island Club West in early February, 2003. The resort is about 15 minutes from Disney and in an area where there is considerable construction. The website states that the resort to is "under construction" and that not all of the amenities are open yet. I was happy with the accomidations and felt we had an incredible value in this resort. My kids played every day in the heated pool and clubhouse. The town homes are nice, not fancy, but great for a family. They are extending the project so there are some workers during the day, but most of the time we were at the parks or at the pool. The staff was great and check-in and out was a breeze. For a great value stay here, I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent experience at The Island Club
My family and I stayed for 1 week from check-in on 1/25/03 with a departure of 2/1/03 and I was very impressed with the ease of check in. I never had to get out of my car to go to a check in desk! It was all done at the guard house when I drove up. I stayed in a 3 bedroom town home that had everything I needed for my stay. The only thing I had to do was go to a grocery store, which there was a Publix only 5 minutes away, to stock the home with food and snacks, especially with 2 teenagers. I found the home to be very clean and fully stocked with dishes, utensils, linens, pots and pans. In other words, everything we needed. After an 8 hour drive, we were all ready for a quick dip in the pool and found the area to be clean and the water felt great. I would say the temp of the water was somewhere between 75 and 80 degrees. The bar was open and my wife and I had a couple of drinks and we were well satisfied. During our stay, we had to call for minor items a couple of times during the week and each time the maintenance people had it taken care of within an hour. One day we left and told the girls in the office of a small problem ( shower head was a little clogged because of the hard water) and by the time we returned in the afternoon, it had been taken care of. Everything turned out well and everyone we talked to on the staff was very helpful and courteous. I would go back again and recommend this place to stay to anyone.
It may be nice some day
Stayed for a week, 1/12/03-1/19/03. At first glance the property was very nice. The security/staff was very friendly and accommodating. Check in was a breeze at the security office. After some idle chit chat I asked the security guard about the pool and hot tub. He informed us that the hot tub is not too hot due to the lack of use. It only heats the water when its turned on.
We walked into the unit, a 2 br condo, to find a large TV room with catherdral celing, a kitchen and dining area. The kitchen was adequate. It was a little dirty. The stove had a layer of greese on it, the counters gritty, the plates and bowls had standing water in them, a breeding ground for bacteria. The carpets had what appeared to be the wall paint dryed into it. A pull out sofa bed was in the living room.
Going up the stairs we found 2 bed rooms. The master bedroom had an attached bathroom with a spa type bathtub and stand up shower. The shower had a clump of dark hair in the drain area. A few more long dark hairs were found on the white floor. A sure sign that the bathroom had not been properly cleaned. We checked in late and was tired. I did not want to deal with complaining at the time. The next morning, after cleaning the shower, we found that there was only enough hot water for about a 3-5 min shower. I started to get a little angry. After all this is a new facility and should be tip-top. After rinsing off with cold water I got dressed and went down stairs for breakfast.
I turned on the TV to find out the weather for the day and found there to only be about 15-20 channels of which only about 10 came in good enough to make out and the 10 or so channels that did come in went out quite frequently.
We had been on vacation for about 5 days prior to checking in at Island Club West. I had a load of laundy to do. I started the washing machine and loaded it up with detergent an my dirty clothes. After a day at Universal Studios I returned to find my clothes soaked and covered in detergent. After futher inspection it was noted that the machine did not agitate or spin the clothes.
Well at this point I started to get angry. Now I have soaked clothes with soap all over them, very little hot water, a dirty bathroom and kitchen. I wanted/needed a hot tub. I walked to the hot tub and turned on the timer. The tub started to bubble with the soothing jets of water. I put my foot in the water to find that the water was as cold as my shower in the morning. I scraped the hot tub idea for a few cold beers.
On the way back to the room I found a staff member and reported the problems we have been having. He apologised and assured me that he would have the water heater and washing machine looked at.
After about 3 days the showers were still about 5 min and the washer was still broken. I went for a walk to request that somthing be done. About an hour later a maintence person came to the room and advised that they were aware of the problem with the broken washer and that is was suposed to be fixed but the repair man did not show up. He did not offer an answer to the hot water heater.
Two days into my stay, at 4am I was woken up by the alarm clock in the unit next to mine. It was still going off at 7am when we left to goto a park. We informed the security guard at the gate of the situation and he said he would lookinto it. The next 3 days I was woken up at 4am by the alarm. The last time at 4am I went to the security guard, the same one that I had told provously was working. He came with me to invistigate. He found an alarm clock in an unoccupied unit going off. I reminded him that I told him about it 3 days ago.
At this point I am thinking that I have had better stays at Motel 6. The week is almost over, besides what else could go wrong. Well after a day at another park we returned to the condo. I took the credit card type key from my wallet and inserted it into the reader. The little green light did not light. I tryed again. Still nothing. My friend tried his key. No light. Go figure, somthing didnt work....
Another walk to the security office. He apologised and let us into our room. He took our keys and dropped off a new set. The next morning we tested the keys and the new ones did not work. Back to the security office. He issued another set of keys. These did work.
We checked out on the 19th and were happy to do so. We couldnt wait to get out of this place and into the next condo.
Some other little things were nowhere in the condo was there any linnens for the pull out bed. Most of the bi-fold closet doors were installed incorrectly and did not close properly. There was only 2 rolls of toilet paper in the unit and no paper towels. No dish washer detergent. These are some of the little things that make a big diffrence.
Island Club West could and very well maybe a nice resort some day. However you wont find me going there again. Nor will I recomend it to others.

The Spiderman's 3d stimulating ride was really nice but to be honest I don't have anything exciting to say about it because since I left the park till this time I am writing the review, the only thing in my head is the "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" ride which was, hands down, the BEST ride on the Universal Islands of Adventure.
