April 25, Leaving Japan for Vladivostok Today, I got up at 4am to get ready for the 650AM flight to Toyama from Haneda. From Toyoma, I fly Air Vladivostok to Vladivostok! The ANA flight to Toyama was uneventful except for the magnificent view of Mt. Fuji. I arrived at Toyama airport with no problems and was surprised to see that not only are there flights to Russia but Asiana airlines has flights to Korea. It's a very cute airport that has a great soba place which I went to for breakfast. I h...

What can I say about my continued journey eastwards from my overnight stop near Star Oskol. Through Voronez and Tamba to Kamenka. 360 miles of rich black earth with birch tree hedges. More a touch of Wiltshire I think today. All day. I often wander around the supermarket and wonder where all that corn on the cob comes from. This is only one ...
... thing too, where ya can buy formal military wear. Grabbed a couple things I hope will fit. There was some nice stuff in there and if ya wait around a bit you'll see plenty of hot military guys come in. :)
I wandered back at a late evening hour and relaxed in the hotel. Got some packing square since I need to check out around noon tomorrow, even though my flight isnt until 4:30pm. One more taxi trip and 2 planes and I be home.

It was great to arrive in Samara - what a lovely modern city, with the old buildings well maintained. The River Volga running through the middle of town (a couple of blocks from our hotel) looked very inviting. Loads of people swimming, sun bathing on the beach and strolling along its banks.
... gray matched the gloomy weather that day as we all filed in our lines without a word spoken. There's a young Russian lady standing behind the yellow queue line ready to cattle prod any eager foreigner who's brave enough to pass it.
I was a bit nervous, unsure of what to expect as I stepped into a narrow hallway and handed my passport to a chubby-cheeked lady. She ...
