      ... with koffie and sukerbollen, a typical Frisian (translation: calorically dense) dessert -- consisting of the usual suspect ingredients including sugar, white flour and lots of butter !

      After getting nearly blown off the dike at Hindeloopen ( ancestral town of part of my mother's side, the Hinlopen's) we raced home, determined to get to Amsterdam for an open-air viewing of the Dutch-Argentina World Cup semi-final........

      ... 6:30. We dumped the luggage and headed for the metro to find our way to the Eiffel Tower. It was so amazing at night all lit up. Everyone was sitting on blankets in the grass drinking wine and champagne waiting for the light show at 11:00. We weren't able to go up but we plan to be there in the morning to get tickets.       ... not a Catholic church that was taken over and stripped of its adornments. The inside is very plain. Apparently Rembrandt is or was buried here - nobody knows where. The "stairs" and "ladders" to the viewing balcony are a narrow passage with very narrow wooden steps - not for the large bodied or faint of heart! The church is over 80 m to the top of the steeple; 42 m to the viewing balcony. Wonderful city views from up there. There ...

      ... readers, I promise I hadn't smoked anything at this point!! Oh Amsterdam, every day you suprise me! After this wonderful adventure we rode to our favourite pie shop, as it was close by. There we met a guy from Perth who worked there and we chatted for a good hour, enjoying a delicious pie each. So tasty. Unfortunately Elle couldn't have a pie as they weren't vegan, so afterwards we rode to maos, a chain of vegetarian flafel houses which serve flafels in a pocket of Turkish ...

      ... it was as she thought it was funny, and that she was not yet ready to ride her bike home cos she was scared she might fall off or something.
      We walked back to the Anne frank house to see if it was still busy, and yes the line was still around the corner and impossible to think about waiting for it.
