      ... with koffie and sukerbollen, a typical Frisian (translation: calorically dense) dessert -- consisting of the usual suspect ingredients including sugar, white flour and lots of butter !

      After getting nearly blown off the dike at Hindeloopen ( ancestral town of part of my mother's side, the Hinlopen's) we raced home, determined to get to Amsterdam for an open-air viewing of the Dutch-Argentina World Cup semi-final........

      ... and trams zooming all around kept us on our toes. After the stress of attempting to cross one street after another I saw a Herring stand. In my book I had read how this is a specialty and famous in the area naturally I had to try some. Well I was imagining some dried little fish almost chip like, boy was I surprised to receive this basically raw slab of fish bigger than my hand with some onions and pickles on top!       ... and didn't go for very long. We did another loop and decided we'd head off home. It really was freezing. We got back to the room and warmed up and relaxed for a bit. Around 5pm we got hungry so went for a walk back to the central area. We visited the Greenhouse which was packed and spent a bit of time in there. We did some more walking and found the pasta place from last night where we ate again. Their pasta is so fresh and amazing. We wandered slowly back to the room ...

      ... confronting! After that we finished in the main section of the district where everyone else lined up for a live sex show and 4 of us, me included decided against it so we went and got some dinner and then did a little walk around but it was really dark and four girls walking through the district we decided to just head home.       ... br> - Met one of my all-time favourite bands, Sticky Fingers, at a small gig of theirs in Hoorn.
      - Took a tour of the canals on my last day in the city.
      - Discovered that there is an incredibly beautiful, bikeable, livable city behind Amsterdam's better-known reputation for liberal drug policies and partying. Without a doubt the most idyllic city I've seen, and definitely somewhere I could see myself ending up in the next ten years.
