    This morning we were up early for we had to arrive in Alkmaar in time to see the opening of the Traditional Cheese Market. It was fascinating to see the demonstration of how the cheese market operated. It was also interesting to see 30,000 kg of cheese laid out in the town square.

    ... on the Manchester flight was in complete contrast to the previous flight. She recognised that we were both tired and immediately went and got us pillows and a cup of tea.

    ... is obligatory cheese sampling if we pass a cheese shop; of which there are many. The best is called old Amsterdam. When you go into the shop they hand you a slice of it and some apple chutney. It's sublime and I have to buy some, not now though because I don't want a sweaty cheese stinking out my bag. Walking because we have done a lot of it. I thought dublin was a lot of walking but this is a whole new level. We have seen the Amsterdam sign, several markets ...

    ... taste test of most cheese in the shop she finally bought one that had lots of herbs in it. Yum!
    One of the best things in Amsterdam was just walking by the canals, lots of cute little shops and cafes to look at. Years ago people were taxed really high if they wanted to build house over a certain width, so what did everyone do, they built narrow houses but very tall. These are the types of houses that line the canals.
