Petra, WOW WOW

For the night of the 2nd we stayed in Aqaba in South Jordan, strait away we realized that this country was well run and alot more western. From Aqaba you can see part of Israel and Saudi Arabia. We set off at 9am and drove to Wadi Rum for a few hours. The landscape here was amazing, James was still a little sick so just sat all day, Seb much better and Dad and I on fire!! The movie Lawrence of Arabia was filmed here, Lawrence of Arabia had a huge connection with this place, Dad and I went in ...

Petra

I took a little minibus shuttle from Amman to Wadi Musa, the town where the ancient remains of Petra are located. Another crazy/fun experience, a completely beat-up vehicle with a Bedouin at the wheel and once again I was the only foreigner on board. But it was a lot of fun and a great way to meet the locals. We pulled into Wadi Musa around 6pm about an hour before sunset, which was perfect since my hotel has a little terrace the overlooks the mountains where the ruins are located. Gorgeous. ...

Happy New Year from Petra

We made it all the way to Petra in Jordan today. Happy New Year to all! The last day of 2008 the boys learned how to windsurf in Dahab and we also went snorkelling with a glassbottom boat. The New Year's Eve party was mainly a big buffet (outdoors so a bit chilly, but nice food) We stayed up but decided not to join the Russians on their beach party. It just is getting too cold at night. The first of January was a bit of a lost day because we had to wait in the port of Nuweiba for the Ferry to...

Worth the drive!

... we went for HOURS! Really, when you seen one roadside water stand, you've seen them all. They were all over the place. Little 'shantys' on the side of the road in the middle of NOWHERE. <br>We stopped for lunch along the way and I must say the food here is wonderful! After a total of 4 hours of driving (with 6 adults, 2 kids and one baby) we finally arrived in Petra. I have heard many people say how beautiful this place is. This place is ...

I have wanted to visit here since i was a child

Friday 17th July. We woke around 6.30 am for a forgettable brekky of flat bread and jam and tea and we left to return to Wadi Rum. The desert was so different in the early morning with coloured cliffs not washed out yet by the hot sun. We drove back to the town and waited for the bus to Petra at 8am. Soon we were on the minibus on our way and arrived in the mountainous town of Wadi Musa by around 11.30am. We stopped at a recommended hotel only to find it was full and they ...

Peek-a-boo Pink Petra

... it takes about an hour uphill in very hot weather to get to the Monastery. By the time you explore everything around the treasury and the city around it, you might be tired and then skip out the Monastery, but it is worth it so don&#8217;t miss out. Go to the top first and then work your way down. We spent all day in Petra- loving every minute of it. Then we had to leave at 5:00pm back to Amman. I hear that Petra at night is spectacular- maybe next time.

... and our Bedouin driver Mahmoud at the wheel, we were exploring Wadi Rum, a UN protected heritage site. For us, it was an awe-inspiring journey over the better part of a day through a world completely foreign and stark in nature. For Mahmoud, it was another day at the office. As best we tried, It was clear that no camera could capture the absolute beauty of the land. We were left dumbstruck by what we were seeing, and it was simply impossible to focus on anything but the ...

... said it wasn't that far, what a load of crock. Maybe it was could we were sooo stuffed after the huge morning hike but this Monestry seamed soo far away. After a new meandering walking along a river bed we hit the first cliff. Switchbacks all the way up the cliff, we met a few people on the way down who were only saying only another 10mins. Yeah right I think they said this to keep our spirits up. After getting to the top of the first cliff, we had to go through a small gorge and then ...
