... staat het vertrek al voor de deur en hebben we niet veel tijd meer om erover na te denken. Het zijn bizarre laatste weken geweest, waarin je langzaamaan Nederland gedag zegt. Het voelt vreemd, spannend, onvoorstelbaar, maar bovenal super dat het wachten bijna over is. Alhoewel: de slogan "reizen is wachten" zal velen van jullie niet onbekend voorkomen. Ons geduld zal de komende 9 maanden danig op de proef gesteld worden ...

Luckily, we made it through over 7 miles of walking with nothing more than a few blisters...and possibly some heat rash - it was unseasonably warm today. There were sprinkles here and there followed by some hard rain which, thankfully, fell while we were eating lunch. Then the sun came out just in time for our canal cruise around Amsterdam. I'm sorry to say I don't remember much about the cruise. ...

... Dutch government subsidizes her house to encourage her to get off the street.
I am fascinated by this concept. And think it's brilliant.

Anyway - we had a couple of beers & some dinner after walking around; met a group of nice British guys who were "on holiday" and then called it a night pretty early. We were back in the hostel by 10:30. I think we were both pretty overwhelmed and mentally exhausted by all the sights.

... talking about me and called them on it a few times, much to result of some giggles. Oh, and I got to try on clogs, but didn't have Hugo's mum's camera handy (because mine was well and truly drowned from the canal)

After a couple of hours, we said our goodbyes and walked down to the big tent that had been set up for the party. There was an entry fee, and you had to buy "coins" here as well so it was very organised! There was a food ...

... EVERYWHERE. We go there to charge our laptop, camera and cell phone and take advantage of their mcultra highspeed internet for free. The only thing is that in central Mcdos in the main cities they charge you 0.40E to use their washroom. This is common place around Europe – I’ve been spending atleast 80 cents in each citiy to have an attendant listen to me pee and watch me wash up in their sink. Lovely. Welcome to McEurope.
