... of Queen Victoria and married, at 17, to the Crown Prince of Romania. At the time she visited Balchik and fell in love with it, the town was in the southern part of Romania. She was quite an artist and writer and made the town a sort of artisan hub. When she died in 1938 in Siniya in Romania, her heart was returned to the chapel in Balchik for burial.

The palace is quite small, but her apartment - well - not grand at all, but sooo pretty with lovely windows looking out across ...

And I realised who the restaurant guy is - he's the creepy man you'd expect to open the front door if you visited Dracula's castle! I haven't seen him smile at all, but now suspect it's to ...

Sozopol - an absolute gem of a place

Day trip to the historic town of Sozopol today.

For our free breakfast we had to walk down the road for 30 seconds to Hotel Fors, which is in partnership with our guesthouse. We took our pick from the buffet of cucumber, salami, scrambled eggs, frankfurter pieces, boiled eggs, mini croissants, cheese slices, slices of cake, jam, fruit juice and hot drinks; then we headed straight off to the south bus station. I had been told that all buses to ...
