... no ones heard about them - they dont seem to bother to promote it much - Im going to mention it here. The reason apart from learning about shamans, tribal cooking, and great parties etc - is that its completely non profit and i think its so good because theyre not greedy for your money (200$ per week) and that shines through. Has anyone been on it? Id be interested in hearing about it.

... just had to join in! LOL That evening we continued wandering and had dinner at a restaurant called Cabbages and Condoms - a really nice restaurant not seedy at all, whose profits go the organisation that supports hill tribes, but it did have a Santa made of condoms at the door haha. We also checked out the Chiang Rai night market. By now I have made some observations about night ...
Chiang Rai, Thailand jhump28... you, i really don't know how its done. *one of my favourite pastime in thailand (plus elsewhere in asia) is going around looking for mistakes in english spelling on signs and especially food menus. or if not mistakes, then just total randomness of words!! oh it does keep me entertained..... these are a few of many.... -shrimps balls -chicken tendons ; (gross!!) -fine food cooked to your "teste'" : that sounds nasty. ha ha!! -grilled pig mama cooked to ...
Malysia to North Thailand (Chiang Rai), Thailand danhobson... a sawngthaew instead. Although we knew it was only about two kilometers from the train station to the bus station (thanks to the GPS), the first driver wanted 100 baht for the ride. Once we started walking out of the station, he agreed to give us the ride for 40 baht instead. The Chiang Mai train station was a comfortable place to hang out and wait for our night train to Bangkok. There was affordable massage parlors offering hour long Thai massages for 150 baht, but ...
Chiang Rai, Thailand aaronpolarbear... thankfully has free calls from his Thai Mobile to mine! This enables me to chew the ear off him on a regular basis. Thanks also for the handy phrases. I'll impress them to no end tonight with my grasp of the language.... Love to you all, and let me know if you want me to take you off the blog! Sal XXX PS - Eh, Dan? Remember me, your mother? You might drop me a line sometime......! PPS - Its all about the Elephants, both types (private joke, sorry!)
Chiang Rai, Thailand sallypoff... separatist movement. Their is some speculation as to how dedicated this group is to it's political agenda as one of the main leaders accepted asylum from the Burmese government in 1996, betraying his people for personal economic gain. Also their is Mon refugees from Burma who work the Poppy fields seeking refuge amongst the SUA from human rights violations. (Burma's soldier's have been known to use members of this tribe as ...
Chiang Rai, Thailand jshaffer... rooms with all the basic mods and cons for 400 baht a night. I still like Mae Sai and besides a larger market knocking off all the latest imported Chinese technology, the town hasn't really changed that much. It is also a great place for day trips around the area. On the second day, the wife and I set out on our own for Doi Tung and Mae Fah Luang. The best way of traveling up to Doi Tung is biking. But I decided to do the wise ...
Chiang Rai, Chiang Rai, Thailand clearystephen... Burma for 1,5 years; he was cool. We started to walk. The first village we came to was a very primitive one with one of the hill-tribes. We felt like idiots standing there looking at them. It was like we were at a museum looking at ancient people. In the second village they seemed to have a lot more tourists going through so it was not the same museum feeling. In this village we also spent the night and learned that you can use bamboo to ...
Chiang rai, Thailand mighty_ted... and TJ still has when one of the touts and hawkers sees me for the first time and does his little pitch for Cuban cigars or massages or the nearest 'titty-bar’ (I hate that phrase, as if you look at cool cars for the headlights) or or… "What you lookin’ for buddy?" Sometimes they’ll even follow you down the street, as if a little extra persuasion is all you need. If borders are the lines that divide, i.e. cultures from ...
