... contrasts, because the people in them aren't one-dimensional and can't be categorised nearly into little boxes (that's why I'm an anthropologist, not a sociologist or psychologist). Venice is not unique in it having contrasts, but I'm not sure how many cities are metaphoric. A city built on water, flowing with lives and tides. It is a beautiful city with glorious basilicas and city squares, masks and murano glass crafts, and it's an ugly city with it's little ...

What I liked wasn't in Venice, but it was all around it. I still bought the T-shirt ...
... to Lido for some unknown reason, and the gondoleer asks if we would like a ride. The water is still motionless and no other boats were around to make torrentuous wakes, so I decide there's no risk of severe motion sickness.
It is not long before we are back on the dock and say our goodbyes. I make my way back to the apartment without a mosquito in site. And there, my soft, warm bed awaits me so that I can dream about my perfect day.
