June 14 we have arrived at Chania airport and the wfirst task is to pick up our car, which Ray is to drive and I am to navigate ( with the assistance of the Navman, to which I have added the Eastern Europe package) . Picking up the car no problem ( we will just need your credit card imprint sir) , programming the Navman not quite so simple, until I …
Crete has plenty to offer, abundance of sunshine, friendly people and good wholesome food. Its easy to drive around the island and late May early June is the perfect time to be here. The oleander is now in full bloom and the drive along the north coast from Chania to Rethymno is just gorgeous.
Paul did get to the Fort and has the photos to prove it. Saturday - the long walk to Loutro. I was suffering with the heat so caught the Ferry and left Paul to 'tramp'. It was a long hot walk along some very narrow ledges but he made it and then we hit the beach! The blue blue water is lovely. ThenTaverna we are staying in is ok - nice ...
... its first lot of tourists - some will walk up the Gorge! At about 14.30 the first lot of walks emerge from the Gorge and fill the bars and restaurants until they all leave on the Ferry at 17.30 and then peace decends. Friday - we have a rest day - great swimming from the beach - lovely warm sea. Paul has now gone off to walk to a Fort while I sit in the bar and write this blog! Loutro tomorrow - a coastal ...
... about her knee, as gravity from the trail’s steep descent made each step ******* the joints. We would definitely recommend bringing hiking poles for this adventure to help the legs and take the risk out of ending one’s vacation due to the slippery rocks.
Moments of the hike reminded us of climbing up Mount Sinai in Egypt due to the amount of tourists. Primarily this was the case in the first hour where scrambling past busloads of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ammos Hotel Agii Apostoli
We have just returned from 2 fabulous weeks holiday at one of the best small hotels we have visited around the world.
My wife asked for a retreat near the ocean, where we could wake up and hear the waves. At the Ammos Hotel we found that--and so much more. The simple elegant decor, the BEAUTIFUL intimate beach, with soft sand, and the friendliness of the staff, and especially its owner, Nikos Tsepetis. This is a hotel that I would return to again and again, both as a couple, and as a family of five. The quiet informal beach setting and the hotel's close proximity to perhaps the most beautiful city of Crete (Chania) make it an ideal choice.
Ammos for relaxing and recovering
My husbond and I have just had a wonderful relaxing and recovering week on Hotel Ammos.
The atmosphere is so wonderful and easy. The whole staf do their best to make you comfortable, and they succeed fully.
The rooms have everything you need and is very tasteful decorated.
You get the best service no matter if you are laying by the pool, at the beach or are sitting in the restaurant.
The restaurant has a big selection of traditional greek food, which is made so tasteful so you don't feel for going anywhereelse.
All in all you have the basis at this nice hotel to have a wonderful holiday.
It's a hotel you will always remember and come back to!
I recently visited Ammos Hotel celebrating my two-year anniversary with my husband. We wanted to go to Crete but had never been there. We were looking for a hotel that was away from all the noise but yet close enough to the center where we could go for a couple of hours and come back and relax.
THe first think that strucked me the minute i enter the hotel was of how clean, tidy, styliss and cossy it is!
i just came back from a one week holidays in Crete together with my girlfriend. We stayed at Hotel Ammos which i actually found on tripadvisor. The first thing that impresses u when u arrive at Ammos is the politeness of the people. There was a girl at the reception, Nektaria who was really very polite. She stayed with us and she gave us many information about where to go,excursions etc. Then we went to the room. The rooms are very clean, big , they have veranda with amazing views of the ocean. They r simple but they have small stylish details and they r very colourfull. The beach is right in front and it s amazing. I like it in particular because of the white sand. we walked and nearby there is a very beautifull small forest. We also loved a lot the pool, very stylish with a magnificent mosaic of stones, maybe one of the best looking pools i've seen in my life. We didn't eat at the restaurant until the last night but we realised that we were stupid because the food was excellent, maybe better from all the other restaurants and not expencive at all. The day we left the manager, a tall guy called Nikos ( i think he also owns the hotel) gave us a bottle with virgin olive oil as a present. I liked a lot Hotel Ammos, i think that u get a very good value for money, the people were really nice and Crete is an island that i would very gladly return one day, especially if i could get again a room at Ammos
I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was when I booked my trip. I had trouble traveling in from Santorini on September 24, 2004 and called the hotel and told them that I wouldnt be arriving til probably after midnight. A staff member was waiting for me and my best friend to arrive, took our bags put them into our room and wished us a good night. On the makeup table, were chocolates and some of Crete's famous tsikoudia/raki with shot glasses from the owner. The room was spotless. Very spacious and not cluttered. The room had AC and heat. I love the fact that we had a small kitchen with a refrigerator. Our balcony led out onto the pool grounds, just gorgeous. The next morning I awoke to see my oasis. Pool in front of my room and the beautiful beach not more than 10 meters from my balcony door. The restaurant run by Manolis has amazing food. We were never dissapointed by any of the dishes. Nikos, the owner and his staff are wonderful and patient people. They went out of their way to accommodate us. The hotel was very busy yet they managed to make us feel like we were the only ones there. We stayed 5 nights. I loved it so much that a week later I was there again by myself for another three nights. The rates are very very reasonable.
My favorite hotel
i went to Hotel Ammos last june and i had the best holidays of my life. Eventhough u can call it more like a couple or family hotel i went on my own and i had the best time. Staff has been wonderfull and very helpfull, the beach, right in front, is super and the food in the restaurant was maybe the best in town ( also very reasonable).
Definately this is a hotel i would recommend everybody to try!
We just returned from a short visit to Crete and stayed at the Ammos hotel. We had a wonderful experience. The location is perfect and off the main road, so it is quiet at night. Though it is not a high end hotel, my family felt comfortable and the attention from the staff was very personable and very friendly. It has a nice pool, up off the beach, and the beach itself is just steps away from the rooms. We stayed in a suite which had a private bedroom an 2 more beds in a large room which also had the refrigerator/sink~"kitchen" area. The food at the hotel was better than any of the restaurants we tried in the area and ended up eating there everynight. Outstanding service from both the hotel and the restaurant. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting that area of Crete and wants a nice, CLEAN, reasonably priced hotel ON THE BEACH.
I love ammos hotel
