A Day in Danang
Yesterday, we had a cool and rainy day in Danang. It was only a drizzle but enough to cool us down and energize us. And energy is what we needed to tackle Marble Mountain! Tom and I, along with Sheila and Keith, two Brits we met at our hotel in Hoi An, took the public bus out of town to this magnificent site called Marble Mountain. Getting …
Perhaps a Bit Too Cool in Hue
Have you ever heard the saying "be careful what you wish for?" Well, this seems to apply to the weather. It has been so hot and sticky lately that I have been hoping for cooler weather. Guess what? We have cooler weather and it is almost cold. Brr... After a rather chilly evening and morning, the sun came out this afternoon and the air is warming …
Finally made it!
So the bus trip was so awful!!! I can't even begin to describe it, so I won't! We are just happy to be in Hue for the night...today we went to the Citadel which is a huge old complex of stone and wood in the middle of the city....very elaborate and very big. Most of it was destroyed in the wars with the French and US. Tomorrow we go a bit further …
Getting to know Hue
After a tasty breakfast at the hotel, I got picked up by a bus for a city trip with a whole load of other people. Unfortunately, the guide hardly explained anything, and even the few times I asked him a question, all I got was a "yes" or "no". I was also in a bit of a bad mood/unmotivated for no reason at all... First, we went to visit the Old …
Hot Hue
We finally arrived in Hue after 14 hours on the train. Getting off, I immediately realized it's hotter here than in Hanoi. A woman holding up a sign with my name & the hotel I'd booked with waited for me by the gate and brought me to a taxi. Arriving at the hotel, I was given a nice cold glass of lemon juice, then I checked in & relaxed a bit in my …

we stay for 2 nights, the staff are very nice. Considering the price, it is a very nice place to stay for a couple days in this small town.

Very central location, great service of personnel, very friendly, they arranged a day tour which was really cheap and included the best highlights of the city. Rooms are big and comfortable. They bring you a welcome drink and teas each time you sit to work on the computer.

Lovely clean and comfortable room and this comes after travelling for 9 months on the road. The staff were lovely and helpful, the rooms spotless and breakfast good value for money. The only downside was the computers were a little slow but i'm clutching at straws.

The Amigo hotel was great! We were able to book a few days in advanced for a last minute visit to Hue during our vacation in Vietnam. The hotel itself is hidden inside an ally along the main road, so make sure to look out for the signs outside! They offered us tea & coffee upon our arrival & greeted us very warmly. Everyone who worked at the hotel was helpful & sweet, though I had trouble communicating to them in Vietnamese due to the heavy Hue dialect! We had no problems though.
The room was cozy, 2 beds, a tv, bath tub, ac, all the standards. They offer laundry service, which was pretty cheap if I recall. Since it had been raining all week, our room felt a little damp. Also, a pipe had bursted somewhere along the road, causing our water to come out of the faucet a brownish color on the first night. Needless to say, we did not shower. But once the work on the streets had been done, the water was nice & clear again. This was not the fault of the hotel, just a minor inconvenience you might run into anywhere in Vietnam.
They also offer free breakfast in the morning, which is always appreciated! The menu is quite extensive too, including eggs, noodles, rice, etc, not just bread & jam like many one star hotels do. The only downside of this hotel is that there is no elevator! That's pretty common in Vietnam actually. We ended up staying on the highest floor, which meant a hike up the stairs every time. But overall, I enjoyed my stay here. The location was central & we were able to get to the market, as well as access tour guide & souvenir shops on foot. It costed about $14USD to take a cab from the airport here. They also do hotel pick up, but something went wrong with ours, so we resorted to a cab. Make sure you have your situation worked out ahead of time!!
