... to be desired. Still it's all an adventure. We stayed two nights and went into Gijong. A really pretty town on the coast. Had lunch and the went to the supermarket to get something for dinner. Drove from Gijong to St Jean de Luz (France) via Gernika, a town which had been bombed by the Germans during the Spanish Civil War 1937) on the request of Franco, so,we believe. Unfortunately we got there at 1.45 and everything shuts at 2.00 and does not open until 4.00. ...

... that it had been properly fixed, we motored out of the harbour. Now, however, we at last had some usable wind; up went the sails and off went the engine and, with the exception of half an hour or so when the wind died briefly, they stayed that way for the next 23 hours. As sailing goes, it was incredible - we had the perfect amount of wind almost the whole way, allowing us to make a very decent speed without being enough to make us uncomfortable.

The starter was gazpacho soup, tomato, chilli and garlic flavour, followed by lamb with a mixture of white beans, carrot and bacon - all in all not bad, accompanied by a glass of local rosé and washed down with a coffee (all in the price). We then made our way to the front once more where we came across a small bridge which led out to a large rock, which allowed us a good view of the coast. Here Ei became enthralled watching a surfer swim further and further out ...

Missing some waves and warmer
water we get the Easy jet flight from Gatwick to Bordeaux. We’ve not booked
anywhere, but Hossegor / Capbreton is our destination. Travelling in the off
peak season has it’s advantages, less places are booked and it’s cheaper.
That’s the easy bit; the difficult bit is the communication. We get the train
to Bayonne, then the bus to Capbreton. We’ve been emailing ...
