Martine drove us through the Pyrenées into Spain, this morning. We explored San Sebastián and then had tapas for lunch. It was fun to try out our Spanish. We found a great ice cream shop and also bought some souvenirs. From there, we went back into France and spent some time in Saint Jean de Luz. This town is famous because it is here that Louis XIV married Eugenie of Spain, forming the Peace Treaty of the Pyrenées. Lastly, we went to ...

... of France to Marie-Therese of Spain in 1660 which had amazing carvings (baroque according to the guide book) behind the alter and several nice stained glass windows. I did comment to Ei that most of my photos so far are either stained glass windows or waves! Having visited the church we made our way further along the road where we were invited by a shop keeper to try his produce which consisted of various cheeses and sausages. Now in the UK if someone offers you a sample to try ...

We arrived at the one sight in town, the church. This church became well-known because Louis XIV got married there! It was a very different looking church compared to others we had seen so far. The church had 3 levels of seating in balconies going around the side, to accommodate a bygone custom where men and women used to sit apart. We had never seen levelled seating quite like that before and the church was seen as quite an ...
