I started the day picking up where I left off in Nelson yesterday. Got a nice breakfast at a café on Baker Street (the primary shopping strip of Nelson; why did I find myself humming Gerry Rafferty?), and then continued my further exploration of town. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entire area was just bursting with fall color this late in October at this latitiude; maybe not as many reds as at "peak", but certainly a few, and plenty of yellows ...

... as well as checked in my bike and gear, while he went to the hotel to clean up after his rainy camping trip at Glacier National Park. Then we met up again in town and walked around so I could show him the sights. I was excited to show him the whole Ironman setup, and where the swim will be, and where the transition area is, and we walked by the finish area as well. It really started sinking ...
We are promised a "leisurely" start to the day before pushing west to the Kootenal National Forest and the Lost Trail Wildlife Refuge. Lunch is in Libby before we head for the Cabinet Mountains and stop at the Giant Cedars which sit alongside the Ross River. After the cedar surprise, we shall drive along the shores of Lake Pend Orielle to the hotel in the "resort" of Coeur d'Alene in Idaho - described as "a little slice of heaven" !
