... had a mini mass. After church we picked up a couple of things from Whole Foods Market so mum and dad could cook dinner. They made meatballs, they were really nice. We drove back home and Skyped the family, it was really nice to see everybody and wish them merry Christmas. Everybody went to bed excited for the following ...

So beginning to think I might be jinxed with flying. First, my flight from New York to Denver was delayed by an hour and a half. ... of room to run around. I met a Venezuelan on his way to Caracas. He was a well to do landowner who had a ranch of aver 15,000 acres at the base of the Andes. Part of it he used for a macadamia nut farm, the other part was for running cattle. We talked at length about politics in Venezuela and the direction the country had taken since the election of Hugo Chavez. I was in Venezuela right after Chavez was first elected, and it is my impression ...

      ... as I’d hoped.

A few months later, a friend of my sister was celebrating a birthday as well and suggested to go to the same nightclub. Reluctant as ever, I got dressed and hopped in the car lacking any excitement for the events to come. We arrived at the club and it was just as before: everyone around me dancing and smiling and laughing and singing along and myself latched on to a sister at any chance I could find one.

I scanned the crowd to do some ...
