Historical Traveler Reviews of Amerisuites Busch Gardens Tampa
Smelly Rooms
from A TripAdvisor Member
My sons and I stayed in the hotel in April 2004 and chose this one due to proximity to Busch Gardens.
The Good - free, hot and cold breakfast buffet
The Bad - very wet smell in the room. even after requesting a room change, the 2nd room had a damp smell. Bathroom toletries looked as though they had been re-used. Very noisy in the hotel. The pool was also dirty.
My sons had now nicknamed Amerisuites " Ameri-SWEATS". the family we were traveling with changed hotels after the first night. We were stuck!!
Would never stay at this location again--
WESTIN Hotels have my business since that time.

Great for business
from Like2travel
I recently stayed at the Amerisuites for 2 nights for a business trip. After reading the reviews I was a little leary but I was pleasantly surprised.
I had the TCB suite (taking care of business)which included free high speed internet and a desk which was perfect for after hours work.
As for the room, yes the carpet was a little stained but the room and the sheets were clean. Maybe I was lucky but I had no issues with my room.
The staff was very friendly.
Don't expect a gourmet breakfast buffet, it's very basic: danish, bagels, toast, coffee.
They also had a nice, clean pool.
Although it didn't pertain to my trip, the hotel is very close to Busch Gardens.
There are many restaurants in the vicinity, however I would suggest you don't travel too far south of the hotel for dinner.
Also, your room reservation is guaranteed until 2am, so they won't "give your room away" before then.
Yuck! Poor value, filthy rooms

We stayed during Feb vacation with two children. The suite was not as advertised, there is no divider between master bedroom and kitchen/living area. We also had overflowing toilet issues and maintenance cleaned up with our bath towels without mopping with disinfectant. The rooms and carpets were dirty and smelly before that.
Breakfast was just ok, not up to their competitors. For over $125 a night I expected more - I wouldn't stay there again.
Good 3-star budget hotel

I stayed at this hotel for one night. We booked on Hotwire.com and when we arrived (@ 11:00pm) we were given a suite. The desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quite large. We ate the breakfast and it was good..they had eggs and sausage along with the usuals (cereal, pastries, bagels). We went @ 8:00am and it wasn't busy but when we checked out @ 9:30 it was very busy! I am usually picky about the hotels I stay in, but this one met my expectations.
Amerisuites Average

We stayed there for two nights in mid December. The hotel looked great from the outside and the lobby was nice. They gave us a smoking room and we DON'T SMOKE (they never asked what we wanted). The wireless internet connection was very weak. The rooms, however, were quite spacious and liveable. Be aware of takeout menus in the room. We ordered from a place called BONELLAS...worse food I have had in years. They took about an hour to deliver. The meatballs were small and overcooked, ham was boiled and pasta smelled old. They used BACON BITS for bacon. Anyway, Amersuites is only worth it if you get a room for half price on PRICELINE!!!!
Good 'park' hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel looks immaculate from the outside and the lobby is spectacular.
However, the room we stayed at had the "wet" smell. Found out it was the AC. Not a place for rest...very noisy...doors slamming kids/people talking loud etc...at 7am....not a true Vacation place.
Breakfast was OK...staff were not overtly helpful like in the Caymans or Bahamas...they were more mediocre here. Price of phone calls...outrageous.
Besides the above negatives...great hotel especially for hitting the parks. Pool was clean and nice...room service above average.
I would stay there again if we were visiting Busch Gardens, then find a more high end hotel to sleep in late!
The good the bad and the ugly
from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed at the busch gardens amerisuites for two nights on business.
The good: free hot and cold breakfast, free internet, close to theme park(not very relevant to my trip but might be to others).
The bad: small fitness center, unusually low bed, limited channels, hot and cold water sometimes backwards, suites not really true suites (not separating the bedroom and living area).
The ugly: toilet trouble for both myself and my colleagues who styed in other rooms (they did respond quickly), stained carpets, room was damp (carpet, bed) even my clothes were damp the next day after I hung them up.
Great Stay at AmeriSuites Busch Gardens
from karen45
My husband and 9 year old daughter stayed here for 3 nights in March 2004. The first night we checked in after 10:00 p.m. and our requested room type was not available. They adjusted the rate (lowered it) and put us in another room and assured us the next day while we were playing at Busch Gardens that they would move us into the correct room (suite with a king bed and sofa sleeper).
When we returned after of day at Busch Gardens all was as we were told it would be. They also never adjusted the room rate back to the king bedded room so we received a much lower rate for the entire stay.
The rooms were clean, and there was never a smell of anything bad. My daughter slept well on the sofa bed as well as we did on the king size bed. The bathrooms were clean as well as the kitchen area.
The breakfast was like every continental breakfast I've ever seen and the staff kept the area clean. Though I didn't venture into the pool, my daughter and husband did and enjoyed it and said it was warm. The pool towels were certainly adequate, clean and not threadbare like some other places.
The area surrounding Busch Gardens is not anything like the area surrounding Disney -- much of the area is seedy and very run down. However we never felt like we weren't extremely safe. We walked to dinner every night and weren't worried at all. Luckily the AmeriSuites property is set back from the road so I don't think a lot of people that aren't staying at the hotel would hang out there.
My only complaint -- they had free popcorn available in the lobby every evening -- a huge no-no and just when I started the Atkins diet!!
Even with the slight problem the first night we enjoyed our stay at AmeriSuites and plan to go back for 3 more nights in Feb. 2005.
Stay Away!

Back in 2003 we stayed at this hotel for Howl-O-Scream. The experience was so miserable that they gave us a free night to make up for it. The second time, July 25, 2004 was even worse. Where to begin? Rude/Incompetent front desk staff...bathroom door handle broke off...rust/mold all over the bathroom...remote that did not work with the TV...pillows I wouldn't let my dog sleep on...smelly room...I could go on, but I don't want to waste any more time than I already have with this hotel. To top it off, the manager was "out filling her tires" when we asked to speak with management during checkout. Whatever you do, don't go to this hotel!
Awful Place

Stayed here last summer. Had a confirmed reservation with guaranteed late arrival, but room was given away. "Rollaway" bed stood on end, had no sheets on it. Sheets tattered and torn. Mattresses mushy. Room in poor condition. Vellux blankets were washed so many times all that remained was rubber. Tub leaked. Loose door handle in bathroom. Did receive the second night free--that's the only good thing I can say about it. I'm sure there are better places to stay elsewhere.
