East Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States tmdjGrand Rapids, MI... I have nothing to say really. It decided to start raining like crazy the minute we crossed the Michigan border. Needless to say, I didn't feel like exploring much in the rain. But, our show went well, we had an excellent crew in a great space, so I can't really complain. I just hope Michigan gets a bit better.
... 8221; in response to our waitresses constant questioning regarding the food and our comfort. One must placate the beast at all costs to prevent attack. The place and the people were really creeping us out....but we’re not the kind of people to turn down a good American Buffet so we agreed to stick it out on condition that we run at the first sight of anyone wearing any form of hooded cloak or carrying a sword.
We decided to cut our trip short by ...
So I head off today on this big adventure! I will be in Amsterdam for 3 days and then I head off to Arusha on Sunday with my group. I am full of excitement and nerves and I can't wait to learn and experience everything this semester will offer. There will be many stories and photos (if I can find somewhere to upload them) to follow.
Love and peace to everyone I will miss you!

My Journey truly started May 1 2009 when I voluntarily became homeless. If you are not feeling happy, I would truly suggest selling as much STUFF as you can get rid of and becoming homeless for a change. It is positively enlightening.
Living off of free samples at grocery stores is the most obvious way of getting a warm meal, but I found plenty of other options.

... and walked briskly down the arrivals corridor, I love small airports! There at the end of the hall was my husband waiting to greet me. I nearly cried for joy as I set my bags down and ran (OK so it was kind of a waddling trot) the last couple steps to him. As he enveloped me in his strong, protective arms I knew that I never, ever wanted to travel so far away without him again. He thanked God that I was home safe and ...
Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States ambiancetravels... Losing your luggage in Vegas? Not a big deal; plenty of stores around. Losing your luggage in Paris? Might be a bit more difficult to replace things. One more day of work for me and then I have Wednesday off. That will come in handy for doing any last-minute things and cleaning up around the house. Speaking of which, Steve (and men in general) is baffled as to why women clean like mad before a trip. There are two reasons for this phenomenon: 1 ...
Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States zyberg74... were quotes that directly aided myself while I was home. You see, for most of my five months at home, I struggled to relate to new people and failed to make many new friends. I was floundering socially. Why? Only towards the end did I realize that, by keeping my unique but strong philosophies secret from certain people, I was holding a barrier up that would keep us from having interesting and real conversations. Not only this, but also I ...
Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States modernoddyseus... vie. Having attended and worked at several Universities, I decided to see if any had alumni chapters in Kazakhstan. Michigan State didn't. Michigan didn't. Boston University did. I connected via email with a very nice BU alum who was gracious enough to share his perspective of Kazakhstan. He tells me he's run into several adopting families and all had very positive experiences. He also ...
Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States travelmom... our teacher heard complaints that the class below us kept having water dumped on their heads every day during our hour. "And, then," I said, "some kids and I started using the classroom loudspeakers to make announcements during class. My specialty was singing songs. Once, I called a room and sang, in my best Barney voice, 'I love you, you love me, Mrs. Wright looks like Barney, 'cause she's big and chubby and ... ' "Another time, me and a friend of mine were ...
