Today was our last day in Montana, and though we will miss the scenery and the very nice people, we will not miss the "Loose Gravel" road construction. As if Montana knew we were leaving, on the way out of Missoula, we ran across our final "Loose Gravel" road construction. Fortunately it was very short, but it was like Montana was taking it's last …
... They were hatching the eggs and growing these very small fish... Steelhead Salmon. They produced about 1.5 million a year. Great place to stop. We passed through some really quaint little towns along the way. We saw a creamery so you know we had to stop to have a scoop... or two. I saw something I hadn't seen for quite some time. They were selling milk in glass jars. Brought back some childhood memories.
... was about 10 minutes of winding, curving uphill (with barriers) and 10 more of the same going down. The engine was 'cool' with it, as it should be, but I'm sure my BP spiked considerably.
Next stop was Ketchum which serves Sun Valley. Some very expensive homes ...
Drove 60 miles in 1.5 hours.
It was a beauitiful drive through the Sawtooth Mts south to Sun Valley. The entire journey, largely downhill, was full of captivating views of the snow capped mountain range.
Arriving at the town of Ketchum around lunch time we took a stroll and found a very cool ski town. It didn't seem like a "make believe" town as there was some fantastic history, a hint of celebrity and 64 ...
... and after several very strong local beers, I got the bright idea to take Colby tent camping in the real wilderness on this beautiful evening. We quickly packed our tent, sleeping bags, some water and granola and headed for the hills leaving the modern conveniences of the RV behind. We hiked a couple of miles into the thick forest and began the process of setting up camp. Colby gathered wood and we made a makeshift fire ring out of rocks. I ...
