Mexico

Ohh, Ohh Mexico! I love our Southern neighbor. I've been to border towns a few times throughout my life, but I have never seen the Caribbean. It was so wonderful and beautiful. And I will never forget it, hopefully!!

I took my 6 year old. From the airport we drove to Chichen Itza (about a two hour drive and a lot of pesos too) where we stayed at the most grorgeous hotel, the Hacienda something or other. The rooms were huge and cooled ...

Racing the cold front

We pulled out of Hart Ranch in South Dakota a couple of days early because of an anticipated cold front. We also changed the route we had planned on taking. Rather than going to Scotts Bluff, Nebraska we headed to Colorado. Strange as it may seem the weather promised to be better in the Denver area....

After about 400 miles, which is a ...

Killer 17 Hour Flght to the Big Mango

I'm not complaining...but 17 hours on a plane, even a very nice Thai Airways plane is a LONG time. Thank God, Buddha and my lucky stars that they had those tv screens on the seatbacks. Free new movies, (choice of 10), TV shows, 1 or 2 player video games, language lessons in any language, travel shows on Asian countries...I don't know if I would have made it without distraction. The first class section had these really cool egg ...

We have a diverse and talented group of gap-year students from across the States and Canada, and I expect that it's gonna be a rockstar team. Look out for more blogs in the near future, and don't forget to check out the trip map, photos, and videos so that you can follow along on our crazy journey..

Enjoy the ride!

Andrew

Getting to Denver

... wel as the Rocky Mountain National Park around 6:45 this evening. We thought about camping, but decided that staying in a hotel would be more convenient since we have to get Janis to the airport around 11. We decides to stay the Quality Inn, which has complimentary wi-fi, continental breakfast, and a indoor pool. It is comfortable here and it's nice to be on a real bed. Goodnight! Hope to give you another update soon!
Shout Out #38 - Returning Home

... I understood their corruption. The rules were clear. If trouble arises, money makes it go away. My uneasiness stemmed mostly from the term Homeland Security. When talking with someone who uses the term 'homeland' I feel anything but secure. What does Homeland Security even mean? What are the rules? How many flags do I have to wave to be Patriotic on an official level? The ease with which I made it through their procedure only heightened my suspicion. Given the current ideas ...

The Beginnings

... workout that should have been featured on that old show Fear Factor. We leave late, of course. Have I mentioned Jmom's pathological fear of missing flights? The highway brings giddy excitement. We made it out of the house! We're going somewhere that is not our house! The luggage fit this time! I love the airport, don't you? We all agree, even J3, that Denver's airport rocks. And we are off ...

... enjoy these activities. But I now understand that I only enjoy them when I choose to do in them. When I have to I don't like it anymore.

Anyway, since graduating I've been suffering from a sort of intellectual hangover. Towards the end of school, I was thinking so hard that it actually hurt sometimes. They made me read and write a lot. So the idea of writing in my travel blog seemed more chore, less happy hobby. And that's why I'm starting the stupid thing four months late ...

Back home, for now

... to wonder about what group we may have, since we were the youngest people there by at least 3 decades. The Galapagos is a bit off the backpacking trail due to the expense, but was a place we definitely did not want to miss. We did end up with a great group of backpackers, including one women in her 60's who turned out to be the life of the boat. Before we even made it to the Galapagos we had heard so much about the wildlife and how they have no fear of ...
