    Day 9: approximately 325 miles

I'm woken at 5:40 am by laughter. The people in shelter eight apparently think that the end of Quiet Hours means the beginning of Loud Hours. The sky is still dark. I try to go back to sleep while my neighbors continue to laugh, joke, and converse at the tops of their lungs. I am not successful.

At 6:15, I hear something stomping around next to the cabin. I wonder if it is a moose. No such luck. A fat guy and his girlfriend ...

Today is a day without Jenn. Jenn is heading for a gruelling 12 hour shift at the family business, "Buchkosky Jewellers", but Jenn is happy to head off to work. "It's a loath compared to being at home" she remarks as she outlines the day's plan and delegates the evening meal responsibilities to Sauli and I in true Camp Director style. No worries! Getting out of the house for our day's outing was a tad more challenging without Jenn's presence to move ...

When I finally crawled out of bed (I'm a night owl) the large dining room table was being transformed into an Edible Art workshop. Auntie Jenn set the parameters of the activity, namely that there would be no tasting of the art supplies and that there were carrots to nibble if anyone got an attack of the munchies. Hmmm! The art supplies sure looked awfully tempting for our Hansels and Gretels as they proceeded to design winter scenes from ...

... down into the basement to do some more blogging (still haven't progressed very far!) but soon after I started, Uncle came down to tell us all to get into our snow gear, because we're going to go to the big hill! After everyone scrambled out the door at the same time we eventually got out and into 2 cars we all went, with sleds in the back. We reached the hill (it was steep as) and started sliding…. my first go wasn't that bad… my ...

    'Hagalena' Goes Sledding.... Whee!

It was an early mad bolt out of the house with Sauli! He reversed out of the driveway at a ridiculous speed followed by a full lock spin before roaring forwards …. help! He's mad! Then he grinned as he roared down the main road delighting in my response of sheer fear. Is this some final payback for my numerous teasings back in our youth…. "you-betcha!" I can almost read his mind! Well the 'baby' of our family is giving me plenty of stick ...
