Our second week started with a cold, dreary Monday. Being the fair-weather fishermen that we are, we didn't go out on the lake today. The ladies piled into two vans and drove to Walker for our annual beach-town shopping day. With its quaint gift shops, unique kitchen gadgets, "Up North" t-shirts and sweatshirts, and wild rice distributors, it's a favorite place to spend a cloudy day. ...
... Tom & I got on our bikes and hit the Heartland Trail down to Walker. The 24-mile trip was pleasant and a nice workout for me. We arrived in Walker at around 4:00, and after a quick ice cream cone break, Tom continued on his way another 23-ish miles to Park Rapids. We will sleep good tonight. It feels great to be home. The Big Bog never looked so ...
... the $800 entry fee (oh, and the boat and motor). Getting here was another long day's drive. There is a fair bit of repaving being done along with bridge repairs. Those pauses didn't cause much harm, though that one long gravel stretch sure dirtied up the trailer. We didn't stop for a family picture at the giant snowman in Beardmore, but probably should've taken a moment to stop on our way to Nipigon to take in the landscape -- some mini-mountains, the rocky ...
