Had a lovely lunch in a Thai restaurant then took the shuttle bus back to hotel, used the wifi in the restaurant to skype back home. this was one thing in the US we noted compared to back home lots of free cheap fast wifi, went out again that evening Had pre booked a dinner cruise on travelzoo before we went so that evening went back out again for this, was a nice tour around the island with fantastic Views of the statue. ... awesome, if it weren't so hot. There were many trails laid out in the park, and you could easily spend a week here hiking. We drove through some of the campsites at Jumbo Rocks, and the campsites were in between these huge rocks that were everywhere.
The real problem is that this isn't really the right time of the year to be hiking in Joshua Tree National Park. There were a few hard core hikers out there, but they typically headed ...

... Yosemite was fantastic! There are a lot of really great hikes ranging from easy (basically flat, paved) to strenuous (mostly natural ground tracks, very steep in places) and at many different lengths. We did quite a few in our 4 days there, and for me the standout was definitely the hike up past Verana and Nevada Falls.
