After another fun time at the truck stop filling up with fuel, we got on the road. It was early, 6:30ish. Our plan was to get through the desert before it got too hot.
What glorious scenery. We went through the Mohave desert, while it was bland in certain points, it was beautiful. Does that make sense? Bland and beautiful? There were areas of flat land with scrub trees and sagebrush and tumble weeds. And there were the mountains, like huge piles ...
... and the weather was clear and sunny all the way, making for a great trip! We stopped at Rolling Hills Casino in Corning, always the first place we have margaritas in the sunshine (everyone cheered as the temperature gauges in our trucks hit 20+ degrees!). We treated ourselves to the delicious buffet dinner and played our free slot money, Anakas winning $8, Shaws $18.40 and Kanesters a record-breaking $55 ...
... then continued out into the country. The landscape was becoming much drier and more arid in appearance. The temperature had risen from a cool 18 degrees to almost 40 degrees within an hour. While driving along the highway to Bakersfield we noticed a few interesting things:

And lastly, we saw was a huge wind farm…hundreds of windmills perched on top of mountain ridges on the mountain pass that took us out of the desert and into the valley on the other side. My research tells me that these windmills service 600,000 homes in Southern ...
