... ahead was being completed that day and he would be out of a job. But, he was optimistic about being sent to another location that was opening up the following week, but being retired, he wasn't really dependent on it. He had 4 grown children.
"Did they live in the area?" One did. He ticked them off. The three others had gotten good jobs elsewhere - computers, accounting, etc.- and moved. Always that mix of pride with regret that the ...
... than a few. The first night I was a little lax with my screen because the mosquitos didn't seem to be a problem, and I noticed a few more moths. The next morning I unfolded a chair that sat outside all night to find it covered - I mean COVERED - with moth's huddled inside. I thot, "that's odd". Then I found the same thing with a towel I had left out ...
Hasty, Colorado, United States winegalcj... get myself into. :) The simple journey thus far has already been incredible, seeing my life change dramatically. It's amazing what can happen over one year, I can't wait to see what happens in two. As my packing list grows larger, it seems the suitcases and the room I've allowed for grows smaller each day, and I wonder how I am going to take everything I need. I sit ...
Las Animas, Colorado, United States delongchristy... the Sangre De Cristo Mountains to the east. The water flows down around both sides of the dunes in late spring carrying sand deposits back down. As the summer goes on the water dries up in the creeks and the wind redistributes the transported sand back into the dunes. It is such a weird sight. The sand dunes first developed over 12000 years ago when it was carried there in the wind from the west and got trapped behind ...

La Junta, Colorado, United States manningnzGood morning, We stayed in Walsenberg, Colorado last night and did not have internet connections to up date our blog. We did have a great meal after cleaning the bikes. The Aly's Fireside Cafe is the spot on main street if you are coming to Walsenberg, a town of about 4500 people. Business is slow in town after the local ski resort closed five years ago. The snow has not been falling on the right side of the ...
La Junta, Colorado, United States pmsymesToday bore an uncanny resemblance to yesterday. We did cover a whole 350 miles today, which is an excellent accomplishment. Especially when we consider that we go farther in an hour than the settlers taking the Santa Fe Trail (which ran along most of our route today) could in three days. We started out of Wichita late-ish, but made excellent time, stopping only in (historic) Dodge City, KS, to see what was left of the rough-ridin' old west town. The answer is not ...
La Junta, Colorado, United States julia-winkie... WERE WRONG! We basically went rock climbing for the day!, yes, in FLIP-FLOPS and SHORT SKIRTS!! Oh, how were so practical and prepared! NOT! Me and Clare would both agree that this had to be the most physically and mentally challenging thing that we have ever done in our life! But, hey, we made it to the top - with a little help from the guide, Michael, hoisting us up the steep bits, and chucking water over our heads when we were ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States victoria... the bus, and the whole bus stank of poo for hours - it made me want to heave! To top it off i was sitting next to this guy from Dallas who had no teeth - think due to gingivitus, cause every time he spoke i couldn't understand him, and his breath smelt so bad i nearly threw up on many occassions! He was one of the annoying poeple that as soon as you speak they're like, "Oh my god, are you from England?" and ...
Sante Fe, New Mexico, United States victoriaI don't claim to be an expert skier, heck I don't even claim to be a good skier, but I would have to say some of the best skiing I have experienced in my life was in the mountains of Colorado. The slops provide skiing for every class of risk taker from the beginner to the expert. Some of my favorites are the slow and leisure slops that simply wined down the mountain giving you the chance to take in the scenery and the experience.
