... our walk down towards the Rio Grande we heard LESSER NIGHTHAWKS doing their toad-like trills. Once at the bank of the Rio grande we did a little work on our Mexico lists adding Kingbirds, cowbirds, mockingbirds, altamira oriole, kites, kiskadee, vulture and some doves to our Mexican bird lists. As we headed back towards the visitor center we added our first confirmed TROPICAL KINGBIRD (these can be hard to tease out from all the COUCH's KINGBIRDS ...
... described as Hurricane like conditions. Raining so hard you cannot see more than 10 feet in front on the road...they were calling for 50 mph winds and hail and possible funnel clouds...but birds have to be ticked so on we went. Check out the weather map photo...that green pin...yeah that was us driving. I was literally driving 10-20 mph the whole way. The roads were so flooded I did not think we were going to get there. ...

Once we got south of Corpus Christi we began seeing WHITE-TAILED and HARRIS'S HAWK. We started looking for Aplomado Falcon east of Brownsville but dipped on it. We did find more CRESTED CARACARA, WHITE-TAILED HAWKS, HARRIS' HAWKS, a CURVE-BILLED THRASHER, a number of HOODED ORIOLES, a PAINTED BUNTING...and a possible job for Eric!!!

... a siren which they blast from every vehicle they place in the parade and run them constantly down the parade route. The good thing is you know when the parade is coming and you know when it is over.
Then there are the marching bands. Hard to hear over the official vehicles, but onward they come. Then come the floats carrying the beauty queens from all manner of different events, and more dignitaries, and more people just looking to be in a parade.
