Today's 76-mile ride was relatively uneventful mostly because 70 of it was on the same highway. ... shop. The building is still there and has been surrounded in controversy ever since. The Sons of the Confederacy organisation put a plaque up in 1904 to celebrate the founding. The current owner has kept the plaque to placate some extremists, but he has screwed it to the wall back to front, so it can't be read.

Had a really nice coffee in a low key cafe and chatted to some locals. Their accent is very extreme and difficult to understand....
