First night in a Motel, not a really good one, breakfast is bad all over the US but this was even worse than bad... Unfriendly and expensive! But I wanted to go to the factory where my boat was made the next day so I havent had a choice... We also visited the Meramec caverns in Missouri that day, it was kinda cool to see all those thousand of years old rocks hanging down from the ceiling, they have a really cool lightshow there, at first the guide is showing you everything in blue, then in re...

Cortez, Colorado, United States claire-michel... so she had to take it off to get through. One young fellow was laughing at her difficulties, but she had the last laugh, because he ended up having quite a bit of trouble fitting his shoulders through. He actually had to drop one shoulder and inch through sideways. She told him that she could always take off her pack, but there was nothing he could do about his shoulders if he got wedged in there. We all got through in the end, and managed to negotiate the ...
Cortez, Colorado, United States kitkrozser... has been so good to us in creating these beautiful sacred places for us to enjoy & find healing & refreshment for our souls. (quoting from a Hopi man at a native dance performance) The land was & is alive with Spirit. Canyon de Chelly & Mesa Verde were not as stunningly beautiful as the other parks we visited, but they did leave their ...
Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, United States explorerjones... the same tours of the cliff dwellings, and our idle conversation soon blossomed into a friendship as we discovered we had a lot in common. We ended up camping in the same campground, sharing meals, and watching the presidential debate together. By the end of the two days, we felt like old friends! It was hard to say goodbye. We definitely will stay in touch, and we will meet up again!
Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, United States carrieandbob... day. We started our day with a trip to Hovenweep National Monument. Hovenweep NM is composed of 6 units covering 20 miles. The main unit is Square Tower Complex, that's where the Visitor Center is. We drove through Cortez, CO and on a country road into Utah, about 40-50 miles. The drive through canyons and farms was scenic. Hovenweep NM protects settlements of the Ancestral Puebloans. The settlements were built on ...
Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, United States life-in-a-yurtWhen I first plotted out the trip, I thought we would go from Moab to Monument Valley, but the nice thing about traveling by RV is that you can easily change which way the road takes you. This was true of our decision to go to Mesa Verde National Park instead. Mesa Verde is in the southwest corner of Colorado near the four corners. It is also another one of Colorado's wine producing regions! We just can't seem to go very far without going to a wine ...
Cortez, Colorado, United States pfl_guy... how Kevin and I love a challenge too bad we will catch it next time. We could see and take pictures of this dwelling from our beautiful vista point. We had very nice views of the canyon and many other smaller cliff dwellings. On other side of the park is another area called the Wetherill Mesa with several more cliff dwellings, however it is only open in the summer. That will be for next time. We had to drive to Telluride so we headed out on the road again.
Cortez, Colorado, United States becsher... a half-mile, which included climbing up two ladders and crawling through some narrow spaces. I thought it sounded like fun. And, it was.

Balcony House was not as beautiful as the Cliff Palace. However, the fact that it was even built on such a remote location made the site impressive. It was pretty clear from the difficulty to reach the site that Balcony House was intended to house special events and/or special visitors. There were a lot fewer ...
Cortez, Colorado, United States mikvs... 8217;t share much of the high mountain beauty of Durango. The town seemed to be another dusty, mid-sized, Southwest town. Our impression wasn’t changed when we first saw our accommodations. At this point, I should backtrack and tell the story of how we got our accommodations in Cortez. We had made our arrangements just the night before while we were in Santa Fe. Up until that point, we were undecided as to whether we’d stay in either Durango or Cortez. Our mind ...
