We spent the night with our new German traveling buddies in their Jucy rental in the parking lot of a McDonald's. It was Gabi's idea to go in and ask permission to stay there, which the McDonald's employees were happy to grant. I must say it was terribly convenient to be able to use the bathroom and sink before going to bed, to charge up our camera, cell phones, and computer, and to start the day with a hot coffee ...

... start, so I headed to a neighborhood coffee shop for breakfast, thinking I'd have better wireless...it was not meant to be, for whatever reason I couldn't get signed on, so headed back to the apt...the coffee was *okay*, but wonderful breakfast of an egg white on top of a grilled avocado (mmm!) on sourdough. Delicious.

I think Brady underestimated how long it was going to take to get down CA Highway 1, but we had a great ...

We got back in the van and drove on past many multi-million dollar homes - some were amazing – Mike said he thought that they were weekenders for many owners. On we motored to see the Lone Cypress Pine - quite remarkable that it has survived all this time !

... you break the law you go into prison, if you break the laws in prison you go to Alcatraz"

  • that the prison closed in 1963 because of the deteriorating buildings and the high maintenance costs
  • that it had 336 cells in Block B & C - but the fullest it ever was, when it housed 320 inmates and overall 1576 inmate numbers were issued

    ... box. The bus is known as the 'smoking bus' as it's the designated area for smokers... Not the greatest of atmospheres... En route we stopped at Pigeon Point Light Station.
