... area. It was quite lovely and simple. We walked the beach for a bit, made dinner at the hostel kitchen, and walked to downtown Santa Cruz where we stopped in for one drink at a bar with a local band playing (mostly Jack Johnson covers), and then hit up a local book store (an absolutely unnecessary stop, but one of our new favorite activities).  The next day we got up and had coffee in the hostel where we met some of the other folks staying in the cottages, ...

I was having a conversation with my dad recently and I mentioned to them that it would be nice if I could be the passenger during at least one point of this trip just to sit back and take it all in rather than focusing on turns and exits.
