Travel Day on way to Memphis

A travel blog entry by rerowand on Jul 12, 2014

... stop was at our motel for the evening, the Hampton Inn in Greenwood. Tomorrow we hit Memphis. Since it was so early, we got directions to the Mississippi Delta Museum which turned out to be right across the Highway. This local museum was ok, told the history of the region, has copious examples of early indian pottery, arrowheads, etc. Had a wildlife exhibit, local art work, and history of what was happening in the area during the Civil War ...

First stop central park which is ...

When we went across the state line to Alabama, we entered a different time zone, so we gained an hour. There was lots of construction across Alabama to Birmingham, lots of hills and trees and not much else. We discovered that the AC in the van isn't working so ...

Is everything OK ? This is the normal salutation to strangers in Mississippi, but it always made me wonder if there was something wrong. The first time someone said it to me I started in about how I was cold and tired... but the blank look stopped me short.

So I spent the day on the Natchez Trace. One of the seven wonders of the American world. It is a parkway on steroids (as Anne would say). The original Trace ...

    Natchez Parkway

After begneits and coffee at Café Du Monde, we unhooked the umbilical cord(s) from the French Quarter RV Park and backtracked through Baton Rouge north to Natchez, Mississippi. Natchez is the beginning of the ancient Natchez Trace Parkway. The Natchez Trace (trail) has been used since prehistory as a trading route from Natchez north to Nashville.

The National Park Service maintains the Parkway as a scenic drive for ...
