This morning I awoke thinking about our target birds for the day...LEAST GREBE, RINGED and GREEN KINGFISHER. We set out for Santa Ana NWR early. Upon arriving we quickly noticed that today was going to be a challenge as the trails were quite muddy in the aftermath of what we call mini-hurricane South Texas (remember yesterday's entry?). Despite the deluge yesterday, much of the ponds were very low and I was a little concerned about how hard it would be ...

We got to Bentsen to the beautiful sounds of Border Patrol helicopters (if you don't know...Bentsen sits right on the Rio Grande and is a hot spot of illegal crossings). As can be imagined the parade was a display of animals, mainly horses and horses of all sizes and colors and saddles and bridles and all sorts of ...
... to go. Just a footnote, just heard a couple of Lesbians have bought
into the park, not that there is anything wrong with that.
The Rio Grande Live Stock Show was the next event to come
down the pike, and that was just last weekend. This is a huge event carrying on
for 9 days and including a giant midway. Now, Mexicans love a midway and they
are all out to treat their kids to a ride, and gorge down on the booths and
booths of fattening ...
