      ... where we found well-indexed marriage records and scanned a number of weddings which took place here in the 1830's. We searched for Henry's will, but to no avail. Happy with our marriage certificates, we headed toward home.

      This was an enlightening genealogical trip! We learned a lot about our ancestors and gathered quite a few gems through our research. Hope to do another such trip ...

      Started our road trip today. We drove out of Dallas towards Jackson, Mississippi stopping along the way for lunch at Catfish Village that serves tradition southern food. We had more than our fill of deep fried EVERYTHING.

      We arrived in Jackson and enjoyed a quick self guided tour around the city. We did accidentally find ourselves in the dodgier part of town. Thank goodness for our trusty nav man. ...

      ... she was raised, cleaned and preserved. In 1977, she was placed in a special pavilion in the Vicksburg park, alongside a museum that had preserved personal items from the crew (none of whom died, but they had to leave everything behind) and tools and equipment from the ship. It was a very interesting display, and the signs describing what you could see were very informative.

      Today marked our last stop for this trip, which was the Arkansas Post National Memorial. This site is off the beaten path in eastern Arkansas; another one of those places that you have to want to go to - you're not going to stumble upon it by accident!
