    ... she was raised, cleaned and preserved. In 1977, she was placed in a special pavilion in the Vicksburg park, alongside a museum that had preserved personal items from the crew (none of whom died, but they had to leave everything behind) and tools and equipment from the ship. It was a very interesting display, and the signs describing what you could see were very informative.

    Today marked our last stop for this trip, which was the Arkansas Post National Memorial. This site is off the beaten path in eastern Arkansas; another one of those places that you have to want to go to - you're not going to stumble upon it by accident!     ... we returned to the motel to rest before dinner. For dinner we went to a local restaurant called Mint. It had a good men. I had lamb shank (the meat just fell off of the bone.     ... which we popped into the car CD player and began the driving tour beginning with the Union lines and ending with the Confederate lines. Along the way we stopped at many stops, such as memorials, redoubts, etc. The most interesting stop was the ironclad Cairo which was recovered back in the 1960s.
