... go to V.Sattui Winery in St. Helena for wine tasting and lunch after Danica read that they had wood-fired pizza. Both Harlan and Matt voted for that. Apparently hundreds of others had the same idea as evidenced by the traffic jam. Danica jumped out of the car and staked out a parking spot as a car was leaving. She convinced them to stay put until we could get close to it. Way to go!

Eventually, we ended up at the Sterling Winery where they have a very good tour (including a gondola ride to the top of the hill to survey the valley) which culminated in a tasting by a blazing fire. All very nice. In addition, we got a glimpse of the "Real Castle" that everybody was raving about... An Italian castle which had been brought over and re-constructed brick-by-brick.

The drive to Napa was only an hour long and we got to cross the Bay Bridge, the other famous bridge in San Francisco. There are five lanes going in both directions, but the bridge actually isn't that wide. Southbound cars travel on the top of the bridge, Northbound travel underneath the cars on top. Clever! ... had picked out the day before to decorate the house for Halloween. A nice bit of American culture for the kids to experience with their cousins, and a bit messy as well. Because it was still raining the carving was moved indoors.
The kids had picked out 4 pumpkins, so Phil and Matilda carved one, Maddi and Alice did one together, and Ashlegih and Callan carved one each. Ruby wandered around the table checking out each one.
